Overland Model 85
Four and Six
In Overland Model 8four or six
you get certain important advantages
over other cars of . similar price ad
vantages that are definite and tangible.
- Ton get an advantage in power.
The reserve power that comes from
ample motor size; the "snappy" power
that comes from large valves; the flexi
ble power that comes from a sure, not
spark at even the lowest speeds.
A steady, resistless flow of power
that yon "feel" the moment you toueh
the throttle, and that responds instantly
to every demand. . . . -
Yon get the' advantage in size.
A long wheelbase and a roomy body
that add much to the pride and satis
faction you take in your car.
You get an advantage in comfort.
For in addition to the long wheelbase
and roomy body you get large tires, with
their greater air-cushions; deep, soft
upholstery that rivals that of the moBt
expensive cars; and easy riding, shock
absorbing cantilever rear springs.
You get an advantage in convenience.
Electric control buttons on the steer
ing column right at your linger tips;
large pedals that are adjustible to your
reach; a smoothly-working clutch that
even a young girl can operate with
Case.
You get an advantage in appearance.
A long streamline body of pleasing
proportions and graceful lines, beauti
fully finished in rich Brewster green.
You get an advantage in complete
ness. A vacuum gasoline system; a one-man
top, with curtaiuH that fasten from in
side; a built-in, rain-vision, ventilating
windshield; demountable rims, with one
extra rim. You get a magnetic speedo-i
meter, an electric ammeter and an oil
indicator, grouped on the instrument
board, with an electric light to illumi
nate them at night.
Even though you consider these major
advantages alone, the price of the Over
land Model 85 four or six must itself
he counted an euormous advantage. For
in no other car of either type can you
get all these Overland advantages for
even a considerably price.
- This is because no other such cars are
produced on such a scale. More than
three hundred thousand cars will be
built by the Willys-Knight coinpnny
during the next year.
Eight now the production capacity is
one thousand cars per day.
This means economy in production

nut in addition to all this:
You get an immense advantage in

Metallurgy a s.deuce that reaches
back into the dim ages, pre dating the
oldest village blacksmith shop plays n
part in the tig production; a part not
so dramatic, but even mure vital than
the iorccj engaged in shaping the steel
and turning the wood.
It is u science practiced on an advanc
ed scale ut the Maxwell plant, because
the builders of Maxwell motor cars
know that they cannot buy steel and
iron according to the reputation t)f a
mine. Not n scrap of mineral goes into
the Maxwell product tfeeause someone
else lias suid that it is good material.
Kverv ounce must stand the Maxwell
test, must come up to tho Maxwell
standard.
Every shipment of raw material is
given n most rigid examination, and
its ninny as forty -samples of steel am
subjected to a Critical analysis every
dny.
Samples of steel arc scrutinized thru
an instrument that magnifies the -sur
face from ten to one thousand times-
By this process the steel may be exanv
ned visually or it may be photographed
The instrument usod for this purpose
a I.citz-Wetzler camera, an intricate
device made is Itermany. Although it
magnification permits an enlargement
all the wuv from ten to one thousand
liumeter, it is seldom necessary to gu
above five hundred diameter in deter
mining whether the raw material is
flawless.
The Maxwell laboratory also has it
own heating department. This is a
heat-treating apparatus iu miniature. It
is an electric furnace, in which a tem
perature of 2.208 degress Fahrenheit
may be attained, and Is used considerab
ly for experimental purposes.
A dozen experts divide the work be
tween the metallurgical and chemical
laboratories, the various grades of gaso
lino and lubricating oils being tested
in the chemical laboratory.
All the raw materials that go into
Maxwell construction ml Maxwell op
eration are subjected to the minutest
test in the chemical and metallurgical
laboratories. There you find eloquent
testimony of the infinite care that goes
into Maxwell construction..
We learn that an 'ancient science, it
after all, the guiding hand in the most
modern of industries; that no great pro
ductive business can look for permanent
success without exercising the strictest
surveillance over the materials that en
ter into the composition of its product.

ially in the case of factory workers the
insurance has been greatly appreciat
ed, as it often happens tliat they are
not in position to provide for those
dependent upon them in case of their

A glance nt the list of beneficiaries
designated is interesting from the
point of appreciation of this insurance.
For example, one woman has request

some small protection for those dear

The John Bollman Company who

large manufacturers of cigarettes in
San Francisco. This is in line with
the many other favorable working con

that they have embodied into their
new and modem plant.
A trip through this modern factory
with its spotless tile walls, its light,
cheerful working floors, rest rooms,
shower baths and restaurant facilities
is an education along industrial wel
fare lines.
