Judge Kelly held court this morning
at 10 o'clock and disposed of the ense
of George W. Myers, who was indicted
by the grand jury of operating a pool
hall without a license. The case was
dismissed on motion of the district at
torney on account of insufficient evi
dence and because, the defendant prom
ised not to permit minors to enter his
place of business.

pretenses iu giving a false bill of sale
for a bicycle to A. A- Mouroe of North
Salem on October 15. It was discovered
today that the bill of sale was false.

hearing two United t Sates senators next
week. Senator Chamberlain will speak
Monday evening at the opera house and
Senator Jones, of Washington, is billed
to speak Tuesday evening at the same
place. The date for Senator Lane bus
been cancelled and he will not spenk
in Snleui this campaign.

and fined $25. He was tried by a jury
which recommended leniency. He was

Dr. M. C Findley has been appointed
by the chief surgeon of the Southern
Pacific ruilroad as oculist and aurist
for this territory. The doctor held a like
position for 10 years with the company
before coming to Salem. Hereafter, em
ployes of the Southern Pacific requiring
special enre of the eyes, ears and thiout
will receive their treatment in Salem
instead of going to Portland.
