ordered the arrest of a May Traub in
St. Louis. In the rooms of the band

eran, died here today. General Duke
was 76 years of age. He was boru in
Kentucky and wa well known as a
lawyer in Louisville.
He was the author of many books on
the Civil war.
General Duke suffered an infection of
the foot while visiting his daughter
here recently. He was taken to tho Pres
byterian hospital, where he was oper
ated on. It lator became necessary
to remove his leg at the knee. The
shock of the operation was too severe

Industrial Club Work
In a report to superintendent of pub
lic instruction J. A. Churchill, L.. P.
Harrington, industrial field worker,
says that the interest in the childrens'
industrial club work in Douglas county
is better this yeur than ever before.
At the county fair, which has just been
held at Roseburg, the school girls had
hundreds of cans of fruit which were
catered in the canning contest, besides
many exhibits of sewing and baking.
Daily demonstration in canning were
given by the girls' teams from Roso
burg, Riddle, Voncalla and other towns
of the county. The boys did equally
as well in their corn and- potato grow
ing and in their poultry raising and
pig feeding contests. The winner in
the rural home beautifieation project,
which has been emphasized this year
in Douglas county, was won by Leslie
Biitner, a fifteen year old boy who
lives near Roseburg.
Mr. Harrigau ' reports that the boys
and girls exhibits in all ot the four
teen projects which are open to chil
dren, anil thut the best display will be
sent to Salem and 'exhibited at the
stnto fair The two boys and two
girls who won tiie capital prizes will
