A firm sympathiz er of the allies, he early made sugges tions that Greece enter the war on their side. His strong belief in his principles forced him out of the pre miership twice by the action of the king, who held out for a "benevolent neutrality" only. This action, said to have been encouraged by Queen Sophia, who is a sister of Kaiser Wilbelm, has proved unpopular with the Greek peo ple.
