Newport, Oregon, Aug. 16. (Special
to the Capital Journal) Mid-August
and sunshine have accelerated the traf
fic to Newport. The past week has
seen the greatest addition of the sea
son to the resort's population.
It is a gay crowd that inhabits this
erstwhile village now. Human inge
nuity has been strtched a point to
find new and novel forms of amuse
ments. And Newport's well known va
riety of natural attractions have made
the task an easy one.' Whether its an
early morning hike "around the
point" or a dip in the surf, the means
are always at hand and available. Next
week, the Silotz Indians will vie with
this resort for the favor of plasure
seekers. a three day Indian fair will
be held on tho reservation, fifteen
miles from Newport. Should taa pres
ent good weather continue, the auto
mobile traffic Siletzward will be con
siderable. The trip itself is a beautiful
one, abounding in some of the finest
mountain scenery anywhere.
The D. A. Whites of Salem who have
been spending a vacation at Nye creek
as residents of one of the Payne cot
tages, completed their stay during tho
week. .

tion of a letter from Norman 8. Rich
ards, an attorney of Portland, who was
a delegate from Washington state to
tne republican national convention in
1912, in which he comes out strongly
