THE DAILY CAPITAL JOURNAL, SALEM, OREGON. WEDNESDAY, JULY 5, 1916.
Among the world's great story tellers, those gifted, en
tertaining fellers, Rex Beach is stacking high; and I am
always in my glory when I have got a new Beach
story; it suits me more than pie. Red blood in all his
yarns is seething; his characters are living, breathing;
not dummies made of wood; strong
men admire his kind of writing, of
heroism, peril, fighting it's al
ways to the good. And Rex, when
he is busy working, his trusty old
typewriter jerking, until it busts a
spoke, to have his inspiraton quick
ened keeps all the air around him
thickened with rich Tuxedo smoke.
Say, have you noticed, gentle
readers, how many famous men
and leaders explain Tuxedo's
worth? As man's great solace
they expound it, and that's because
they all have found it the best
there is on earth.

The
three teams were sent into a tie
through a double victory of the Beav
ers over Montavilla and the whipping
of the Hradfords twice on the State
grounds.
It was a case of consistent plnying
by the local boys. At every stage of
the game they backed their pitcher
and, most gratifying of all, they were
able to hit the pill when a hit meant
x run. Mike Miller proved a fiend in
batting, annexing a brace of two bag
gers in the "opening contest. His field
ing was of a high class order too. Bill
Heinhart. pilfered second with start
ling regularity besides whaling the
life out of the ball.
Swart., who pitched the first game
for the visitors and went down to de
feat, essayed to repent in the second
session but he was derricked 111 the
second. Lund assumed the task
of!
stopping the flag chasing Lojus and
made a brave attempt but was unable
to cut much ice.
At least four hundred people saw the
game. Both bleachers were .jammed,
the stand was comfortably filled and
autos lined the fence.
