Benson, the roadbuilder. anil liiem- ber of the state highway commission,! in a letter to Governor Withyconibe to day states that in his opinion the state has spent enough money in experiment ing w ith hard surface, pavement and that if there is any extra money to be spent it should be put upon the roads iu Hood River county. The item that caused Mr. Benson to "take his pen in hand" was the proposal of the high way commission to appropriate $."i,uOfl to survey a commercial road-way in the city limits of Portland to connect with the Capital Highway and other hard surface roads built by Multnomah coun ty to the city limits. ' Mr. llenson says there u'o enough hard surface roads for connecting links and that the money should be used on the Columbia Highway.
