A threatened strike of fishermen on tho Columbia riv er seemed averted today as tho result of arbitration. At a conference yester day the fi: h buyers agreed to pay seven and one-half cents a pound for large salmon, and to allow the 'i rah or men to sell smaller fish to the highest bidders. The fishermen hail demanded six and a half cents a pound for the smaller fish, but buyers wanted to pay only six cents ("nless their demands were complied with, the fishermen planned to strike in Mnv.
