The committee appointed to take up the matter, reported in favor of rais ing money by subscription whereby a regulnr care taker could be appointed and the grounds kept in such a sani tary condition that , not only regular campers would be attracted, lmt that touring parties would find it a desir able, place to stop while visiting the capital of the state. The state fair board lias already planned for the proper sanitation of the grounds. Water will be brought to the grounds, sidewalks built and at tention given to proper drainage. In order to pay for a care taker and begin this work, about $300 will be re quired in addition to the cost of the proposed pavillion. With a pavillion with a dancing floor, lockers, shower baths it was thought enough permanent campers would be attracted to make it a pay ing investment for the city. Xothing will be done by this depart ment of the commercial club regarding a public swimming beach this summer, as it is felt that the children will be properly taken care of in the swim ming pool and playgrounds to be locat ed in the J. 1L Albert pasture during the summer. A tour and mnp book of all the roads leading out of Salem will be prepared by a committee composed of Fred E. Mangis as chairman, W. M. Hamilton-, Dwiglit Misner. William Blown and C. O. Foreman. This committee meet to day noon and made arrangements to at once begin working on the may by which every bridge, turn of road, cross roads and even grndes of roads will be marked nnd this information will be forwarded to the automobile association of Portland to lie used in the road book of Oregon soon to be issued. .
