Notes of Events at
Salem High School
The High school foot ball team will
go to Portland next Saturday to play
thoi Washington High of Portland, for
the championship of Utah, Oregon,
Washington and Idaho. As Washing
ton recently defeated the chnmpions of
Idaho ,uul also Columbia University,
the winner of the Snturday game will
become: northwest champions.
This gnmo will closb the foot ball sea
son, unless another gnmo is played with
Albany, and this is not probable, on
acount of tho lateness of the season.
At a joint cIiisb mooting held Mon
day evoning between tho Juniors and
Sophomores, a now form of cluss en
tertainment was adopted, that, of a
Junior and Sophomore pnrty, both class
es taking part. A party of this nature
has been planuod for several years, but
heretofore, tho two classes have been
unnhlo to agree
The Seniors feel they should have
soma way by which to distinguish
themselves from lower class folks, and
at a recent meeting, it decided to adopt
a standard class pin, to be used by all
Senior classes. A committee was ap
pointed to select a suitnblo design and
pto report at tho next meeting. A stand
ard class pin bas been adopted by many
High schools in tho country and is re
garded as much better than each
vrnduatiug class selecting a special
design.
A manufacturer's disninv department
jhas been organized by tho Commercial
department, it Is tho intention of
this department to securo from manu
facturers in tho country, goods in their
various stage's of imiuui'ncliiro. Pro
fessor Hurnig, who has charge of the
exhibit, will make special efforts to
secure Oregon manufactured goods.
Displays huvo been received from tho
Portland Hope and Cordage Co., The
Standard Oil Co., vWulthum Watch Co.,
Rogers Silverware Co., Pendleton Wool
en Mills, Clark Thread Co,, and tho
Walter Holier Cocoa Co.
The filial try-out for members of the
High school debating team will be held
Friday evening under the direction of
Miss Ida Davis, in lino for the try-out
Friday evening are, fra Mercer, Jnmes
If. Walker, Frank Hosebraugh, Lloyd
(.'use Thomas Mcliilchrlst Harold Emell
and Carlton Savage.
The Hnlem triangle this year includes
teams from the Jefferson, Newbeig and
Hnlein High schools. The Hnlem nega
tive team goes to Ncwberg, January I I,
Jefferson negative to Hnlem and New
borg negative to Jefferson.
'llm question to bo debated at those
contests, as well as at all meetings of
