Fire Sweeps Town
Over Mexican Border
El Centro, Cnl., Nov. 23. Fire is
sweeping Mexicali, just across the line
from Calexico. Twenty buildings have
been destroyed. The blaze originated
in a saloon, '
Most of the structures burned were
small wooden affairs. Tiva wnnden
stores were consumed. The damage to

$10,000.

halls and resorts menaced by the blaze.
Numbers of them are homeless.
Mexicali has the reputation of being
one of the wildest towns on the conti
nent. Its gambling houses and resorts

Coach Gilmour Dobie
Expected to Resign
Seattle, Wash., Nov. 23. Belief pre
vails in JSenttle today that Gilmour Do
bie will resign as coach of the Wash
ington football team following Thurs
day's game with the University of
Colorado here. Dobie is reticent upon
the matter but has int-jjintod that he
is considering quitting football for
good. Further than the statement that
lie would act as he siw fit when the
time conies for a decision, Dobie will
not speak for publication. Private
sources, however, give foundation to
the report.
Dobie has coached for 11 years and
says that he is tired of it.
Hnp Miller, star fullback, will not
play again, an injury to knee laying
him up for several weeks. Miller, Shiel,
Ed and Elmer Leader and Hunt will
he lort to the toum by graduation in
Juno next.

The opium story was offered today
by former Police Chiof Hall, deposed
recently, and now in jail on a graft
charge connected with another case.
