HISTORIC RACE TRACK BURNS.
Washington, Nov. 10. Efforts to
find tho stableman who is missing and
believed to havo perished in the fire
which destroyed tho historic Benuing's
race track on tho outskirts of Washing
ton had failed early today. Four other
stablemen who wero burned, are in a
serious condition. The grandstands
and fourteen stables were destroyed.

Boys Conference to be held in this city
November 20, 27 and 28 nro sending
out letters to all parts of the Western
Oregon district, giving information to
the young men of the many Y. M. C.

work of the coming conference. About

The first try-out for the debating
team of the high Bchool will take place
Thursday evening in the. high school
building, when nine candidates will dis

tures of the Swiss system of military

Barley O. White who is familiar with
clover conditions, as the firm of D, A.

pounds of clover seed in this county,

average price this year was Hi cents,
compared to 11 an 12 cents one year
ago, and this year's crop was fullv
doublo that of 11(14. Tho failure of
tho clover seed crop in the east and
light foreign shipments was the cause
of the higher prico this year.

a book for tourists nnd would like ldio-
tographs of Salem and vicinity. The
book will oo published by Dodil, Mead
and Co., New York.
The public safety commission of
Portland, has asked permission of See-'
rotary of State Olcott and tho co-oper-
ation or tins olticial to send out pam
phlets containing educational talks on
public, safety to the auto owners of the
stnte with their license tags which arc
sent out from the office of tho secre
tary of state. The letter states that
it is possible to corral school children,-
policemen and street car men for the,
talks but that if a meeting were ad
vertised for auto owners that not a
"Corporal's guard" would come out
to hear a safety talk. It was thought
that the auto owners of the state might
be reached in a better manner by the
pahphlcts which would also contain the
road laws of the state and city nnd the
commission expressed tiio willingness
to have the pamphlets printed and for
warded to the secretary of state's of
fice if he would mail them out with the
license tugs.
