NOV. 6. 1915, MIKADO ON THE IY TO HIS CORONATION Takes Imperial Shrine, Sacred Treasure Divine Mirror and Other Things By United Press Staff Correspondent .Tokyo, Japan, Nov. 5. Japan's Em peror today departed for Kyoto, taking with him the Imperial Shrine with its Sacred Treasures, the Diviue Mirror, the Sword and the Jewel bequeathed to the Emperors by the Sun Goddoss, in anticipation of bin coronation at that place November 10. The substance of all the coronation rites to be observed between today and itecemner J, is ancestor worship "jus tified by the grace of Heaven from time immemorial." Not more than twenty white perscia. will witness this bizarre, .splendid, yet simplo return to the primitive days of the world when mpn worshipped the spirit of his dead father' in temples that were rude huts. Count Okuma characterized this cere mony as "the natural reverence of a son for his father, carried beyond the grave and expended into a great sys tem of society in which the nation is a super-family and the Emperor a super- FOB RBNT. " Every phase ol' the ceremony is some communication of the new Em peror to nil the dead emperors con cerning his ascension to the throne. The shrine, conveyed in a gorgeous and bedizened "bogie carriage, is itself just a plain, white, underrated wooden shed such as the first emperors used. On November 9, the emperor at Kyo to will receive Wr. George Guthrie, Am erican ambassador at Tokyo, and form er mHyor of Pittsburg and other for eign representatives. Mr. Guthrie may be unnble tn reach Kvotn in tima for thin rwAnfinn na na tina (iDon in ftm' United States recently. There is no crown and no crowning nt the coronation November 10. The ceremony is conducted in a pavilion of plain white wood, in the center of which th.e Emperor's canopy, (not throne), is set. No nails are used iu this structure, nor paint nor ornaments. The Emperor reads an address to the princes, officials and foreign represen tatives. It will be the first time for eigners have attended the ceremony. Count Okuma will reel an address to I the Emperor, liien 2,000 Japanese notn- Dics will yell three "bonzais" and the coronation will be concluded. The days following will be observed various ceremonies, such as "the sac rifice of the fruits of the earth to the spirits of the departed." This be gins at nightfall and concluded at the dawn. The bringing back of the Imperial Shrine to Tokyo completes the corona tion program. Vast Throng Estimated Above . Half a Million Lined the Route Tokyo, Nov. 6. Micado Yoshihito left Tokyo this morning for Kyoto, the former capital, where be is to be crowned. A multitude estimated at" tnywbere from half a million people lined the route traversed by the gorgeous imper ial procession from the palace to the station. The journey was made in great Btate and the red coach was seen in public for the third time. Next to the emperor public attention was ar rested chiefly by the palaquin in which the sacred treasures, the sword, the mirro as the jewels which constitute the regalia of Japan were borne. These relics, 'as the dwelling place of the spirits of the imperial ancestors are credited with superhuman attributes, and as they are only removed from their shrine in the palace once in each reign, were viewed by thousands of de vout Hhintoists as they passes through the streets. In order to avoid the long railwoy journey, His Mngesty will spend the night at Nagoya, entering Kyoto in full state tomorrow forenoon. At Kyoto an archaic and extremely interesting to You? ooriowj . a' 'un i hTjf L 1 P'JI . 1 IVLuW I ceremony will be performed in connec tion with the reception of the imperial treasures. A special building of a sac red nature will be constructed to ohuse them during their stay iu Kyoto, and they will be installed there in the after noon with Shinto rites. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS. . F.
