A dispatch from Altoona, I'a., an important railroad
centre, states that many employes in the railroad shops
furloughed on account of business depression are being
taken back to do the increased work. As the foremen in
different departments send for the old hands they find
that about half of them have gone to other cities to take
jobs and intend to remain. That little dispatch tells a
story of returning prosperity in the East and the problem
of filling the jobs that is before the shop managers. This
story of reviving industry and growing traffic on the
railroads is the storv of live interest the eiiiintrv civ.ii- to
all but the standpat politicians whose aim is to get support a.
for their cause bv talkinc calamity. The i.em.1.1 nf thi
country are soon going to be too busy to listen to calamity
cshouters.
The Herlin press, having heard that Wm, J. Hiyan was
coming to Cermany "promises a reception worthy of the
cause he so eloquently represents." according to today's
advices from the (Ionium capital. Just what kind of a
reception that would be is a matter for wide divergence'
of opinion and Bryan has concluded to remain at homo.
