High Averages in English
University of Oregon, Eugene, March
4. Ten Oregon high schools, of which
Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson, of
Portland, were three, sent students to
the University of (begun in the fresh
man class of last September, of whom
nine made a grade lower than M (me
dium) in freshman English composi
tion, 1 In number, the Portland schools led,
Jefferson high having II, Washington
high 14 and Lincoln high 5. The other
seven were represented as follows: As
toria and Grants Pass, S each; Hood
lliver, 4; La Grande, ltoseburg, Itiddlo
and the Klamath County high solum!, 3
each. The disparity in auinberM makes
comparisons unfair, but the three stu
dents from Middle, with one II (honor)
and two S (superior) grades, produced
the best showing lor their school. The

the pupils are very much interested in
the contest for the best essay on "My
Experiences in Trying Salein First".
