WHY?
Editor Capital Journal: The young
man pacing back and form before
Ryan's market with the "unfair" sign
has persistence, to say the least.
If the young chnp thinks he can hurt
the market and Mr. Ryan, he and the
others behind him have entered upon a
fool's campaign. It looks also silly and
uncalled for. We people of the country
as well as those of the town want the
market, and if a few workmen have a
private grouch against Ryan, what is
that to us. Ryan had and has the right
to hire organized or unorganized labor
just as it suits him, and for either party
to try to annoy an employer because
it was not favored is childish, rio it
looks to COUNTRYMAN.

IN THE SECOND DEGRES
Louis Davis, accused of the murder
of Eliza J. Stewart at Ballston, in June,

The jury reached a verdict in an hour.
Judge Holmes set Thursday at 1

The law prescribes imprisonment in thd
penitentiary for life as the penalty for
murder in the second degree. Walter L.
Toozo, Jr., appointed by the court te
ffefond DavlB, says appeal will not be
made. In the former trial the supreme
court reversed the case for error in the
