this course are designed to aid the
practical housekeeper in buying most
economically tho family supplies, mid

children nnd to look after her own
health. Indeed the purpose of the
course is to tench her how to accom
plish tho most possible with a given
expenditure of time and labor. It wns
designed to meet the needs or women
who wish to become expert home mak
ers.
This home making course is thor
oughly practical. It includes plain nnd
elabornto cooking, dressmaking, mar
keting, household furnishing nnd de
coration, hygiene, care of the sick, and
all those various subjects in which
every manager of a home feels her
need of special knowledge.
The work of the course is completed
n one year. It is open to nil women
who have sufficient age and common
school education to profit by it. In
general, women of 18 years of age or
over who have an eighth grade di
ploma will be admitted to tho course
upon application. Thoso of maturer
years who have not tho diploma mny
be admitted upon rocommendntion of
the dean of the school, to whom cre
dentials should be presented.
The wives and housekeepers who
expect to enter this course should write
the college registrar concerning home
accommodations for the school year. It
also advisablo for them to write
to Dean Henrietta W. Calvin so that
ample preparation may be mndc for the
work.

partment. Twelve rei'.sons why this is
so aro as follows:
1. Every rntiou needs somo succu
lent feed.
2. Com silago is probably tho cheap
est succulent feed that can be had.
3. An aero of corn can bo placed in
tho silo at less cost than that of har
vesting an ncro of roots or kale.
4. A ton of corn silago contains
moro food nutrients than a ton of roots
or kale.
5. Silago can be nindo in weather
that is unfit for making hny, since the
crop is never too wet to put into a
silo.
6. Many crops will bo saved and util
ized for feed that would otherwise have
been a total loss because of unfavor
able weather for handling the crop as
hay.
7. More feed can be stored in a gi
von space in the form of silage than
in thnt of hay or fodder.
8. A well-filled silo is a guarantee
against shrinkage of milk when pas
tures dry up.
9. Silago can be used for supplement
ing pastures more economically than
soiling crops, because less labor is re
quired and tho feed is more palatable.
10. More stock can be kept on a gi
ven area of land when silngo is the
basis of tho ration.
11. Silage has a beneficial effect on
the digestive organs.
12. With the silo full a good, palat
able feed is always on hand regardless
of how bad the weather is or how busy
men and teams aro at field work.
