deaths. The almost superstitious
dread of the disease nnd unwillingness
to ndmit its existence or to seek medi
cal advice in time nre well-known and
difficult obstacles to progress in its
control. Proof of this fatal neglect is
found in the experience of a New York
surgeon who recently studied his case
records in order to obtain definite in
formntion ns to the delay in the aver
age ease. Among his last two thous
and patients there were 8(i cases of
cancer. Sixty-five of these had never
been operated on, and enmo to hi 111 ns
new cases. Of the 03 patients, .15 were
men and 30 were women. Further

after the first discovery of a tumor, or
