south today after spending almost 12
hours Sunday aground on tho Coos Bay

After resting on an even keel from

the steam schooner Bee. The women
and children were taken ashore by the

timated here todny that the estato left
by the late Charles Appwton Hooper,
who died Sunday on nls Kuncho Los
Mcdnnos, in Contra Costa county, aged
71, would run well into tho millions.
Hooper was born In jinine, served
through the civil wur, cume to Califor
nia in 18(14 and engaged in the lumber
business. This was nlways his chief
interest, though biter he took part in
many other extensive nterprises.

tis, pastor of the Christian church in
this city, has returned home, after
spending several weeks at Turlock,
( H.I., where he had exchanged pulpits
with Rev. C. R. Brooke.
Hollv R. Bennett, a recent gradu
ate of the Uuivorsity of Chicago, who
vpent several weeks with his parents,
Rev, and Mrs. George, 11. Bennett, in
I this citv, has gone to Glacier Park,
Mont., where he has a position with
the United States geological survey.
While here Mr. Bennett collected and
classified more than 200 different
pecimens of Oregon plants.
Mrs. Jane Schulta, 80 years old, foil

and broke her right hip and her right

After a shut down of severnl weeks
for repairs, the sawmill of tho Wil
