The attorney-general this morning, in
an opinion given at the request of tho
fish commission says the owner of
lands leased by the slate for a site for
a fishery cannot provent tho removal
of the hatchery buildings to another

San Francisco, Feb. 19. That he will
demand the recall of Carlos Sanjines,
tho Bolivian consul here, who scaped
prosecution on a charge of committing
an offense against two 13-year-old girls,
following the successful pica that the
police courts had no jurisdiction over
the representative of a foreign govern
ment, was the declaration today oi
United States District Attorney Pres
ton. Preston announced his determination
to forward aj transcript of the chil
dren's testimony to Attorney-Goneral
McEeynolds, with the recommendation
that Secretary of State Bryan be re
quested to ask for Sanjines' removal.
"Should 8anjincs' recall not be ef
fected," said .Preston, "I shall take
steps to prosecute him iu the federal
courts."
"The charges made against me by
the two young girls are unfounded and
unjust," said Sanjines today. "While
it is true that I did attend the theatre,
I never saw thoso girls until they faced
me with the chargo of misconduct.
. "I cannot say what I shall do re
garding the effort being made to re
call mo, if such an effort is beinc
made. ' '

CRASHES INTO BUEEN'S MACHINE
WHILE ESCAPING ENGINE AND
DAMAGE RESULTS.
A horse Baid to belong to a family
residing south of the city named Alex
ander, became frightened at the S. P.
switch engine at the intersection of
Commercial and Trado streets this
morning, and, and while in the act of
running away, collided with the rear
end of the big automobile owned by
Max O. Buren, which was standing near
the note! Marion, with the result that
tho horse doubled up iu a knot and
broke the harness and other equipment
to which he was hitched and succeeded
in bruising up the end of Mr. Buren 's
auto considerably. Tho horse escaped
serious injury, however, and it will re
quire very little work to fix up tho au
to a? good as new.

hills section and leaves several sons.

O. M. Pringle, pioneer and former
resident of this city, at his home in
Portland February 18, 1914, at the age
of 82 years. The body was brought to
Salem on tho 1 o'clock Oregon Electric
today. Burial will be in the I. O. O.
F. cemetory,
Mr. Pringle came to Salem in 18-12
and thou went to Prineville in Polk
county about 40 years ago. He has
been a rosident of Portland for the past
two years.
Among the relatives of the deceased
in this city are Mrs. A. N. Bush, a
uieco, and Mrs. John Hughes, a sister.

arrival of G. W. W. Hangar, govern
ment mediator, the O.-W. R. & X. com
pany telegraphers were lying on their
arms today in their fight for seuiority
rights, shorter hours and increases in
pay. President J. D. Farrell, of the O.
W. R. & N. company, the railroad from
which the operators are seeking conces
ions, had no new statements to make
following the one of yesterday, which
outlined the policy of the company as
against the main terms asked by the op
erators. E. L. F. Manion ,fifth vice-president
of the Order of Railway Telegraphers,
stated today that the strike vote would
not be canvassed until after the arrival
of Hangar. Neither would any further
overtures be attempted by the grievance
committee. Ha declared the men would
treat no further direct with Vice-President
O'Brien, at least until the federal
official should come with his advice.

San Francisco, Feb. 19. The first suit
under the new law making the father
responsible for the support of a child
born out of wedlock was begun in the
superior court hore today.
It was begun at the state immigration
commission's instance. Tho plaintiff
was Louis Gambetta, Jr., aged nine
months. Ho sued through Mrs. Clara
Clivio, an associated charity worker act
ing as his guardian. The defendant was
Louis Gambetta. He was asked .to pay
$25 monthly for the child's support.
Agatho Leventino, an immigrant girl,
was said to bo the mother. She was des
titute, the case was brought to the im
migration commission's attention and
suit followed.

attempt to cross the Atlantic ocean in
a hydroplane soon, according to an
nouncement here by the Chicago Post.

Newfoundland to Ireland can be made
in 30 hours.
