! Beautiful Coats and Suits at Meyers )
I Salem's Style Center
Hore you will find beautiful
models direct from New York,
and newest style creations im
ported from that fashion city of
Europe, Paris. Owing to the im
mense buying power of Salem's
big store, coupled with the fact
that our Mr. Henry W. Meyers
journeyed to the great markets
ami personally bought the new
models for tall and winter in
Ladies' Suits, Coats, Dresses
and other garments, and that we
have a permanent buyer in Now
York who constantly looks after
our needs, we arc' therefore in a
position to bring before the peo
ple of this locality the season's
advanced styles as they are cre
ated. Balem women will indeed
appreciate this fact when they
view the complete stock of fall
and winter ready to wear gar
ments. We can say without ex
aggeration that the coining sea
son's display will far out-class
any previous showing ever
brought to Salem. At present we
are displaying an advance eol--lcction
of the new suits and
coats, and cordially invite an in
spection at your convenience. No
obligation to buy, just come in
and see the new garments.

Next Saturday will see the end of all
saloons located in or near railroad sta
tions, the law passed at the last session
of the legislature, making them illegal,
becoming effective September 1. The
fight to do away with saloons in rail
way stations was started by Governor
West more than a year ago, when an
offort was made to close the bars in the
loFferson-street station, in Portland,
through injunction proceedings. It de
veloped that the existing law relating
to the subject was not sufficient to
clnse the saloons and n new one was
passed. The law affects a large number
of saloons throughout the state. So far
ns is known, the saloon men have no in
tention of fighting the law.

W. H. Dalrymple, who resides near
the Englewood school, today reported
to the sheriff's office that he had been
robbed of a .32 Special Winchester ri
fie and that his wifo's gold watch had
been stolen on the night the circus wns
in the city. Mr. Dalrymple states that
it is evidently the work of some young
boys, as many valuable rings and brace
lets were lying in plain sight upon his
wife's dresser, but were not touched.
He declares that bureaus and side
boards were rifled and the contents
scattered about, but only the gun and
the watch were found missing.

Breeze Gibson says there are so many
autos in Polk county, that the dust on
tho roads is getting well mixed with
gasoline. Breeze told a reporter confi
ilentially, that this caused much trouble
because the hens wallowed in the dust.
until they got so much gasoline in their
systems by absorption, that when they
tried to announce the arrival of a new
horn egg, instead of cackling, they
honked. This mado them swell up, each
imagining she had laid a goose egg, and
then they quit laying any old kind of
eggs.
