Another month will see the tourist
travel headed for this beautiful little
city, and it is proper that people who
are contemplating their summer vaca
tion Bhould be informed as to what
Newport and Nye Beach have in store
for them. Nature has provided New
port with most everything that the
pleasure seeker could ask for. The
true sportsman will find fishing and
hunting the very best. Deep sea fish
ing for rock cod, ling cod, halibut,
porch, flounders, etc., are plentiful.
Clams of different varieties, crabs and
rock oysters aro in abundance and a
gunny sack can be filled in a very
short time. In the winter months Ya
quina Bay is alive with ducks and
geese, while in the fall of the year
huckleberries cover the hills by the ton.
Newport is also noted for the beautiful
agates and precious stones that are
picked up daily on the beach. The V.
S government lighthouse on Cape Foul
weather is only a short distance away
and is open to the public two days
each week, also the government life
saving station, at the entrance of the
bay. Thousands of people visit these
places of interest each year. The noted
Punch Bowl, Seal Rocks, Jump Off Joe
and especially Nye Beach are beauti
ful places of interest to one who has
never visited them. Hacks and car
riages are always ready to take tho
tourist to any of these places. Beau
tiful scenery, pure mountain water and
the best beach on the Pacific coast arc
what tho city of Newport is blessed
with. This city is wide awake and up-to-date
in a good many things, such as
good public schools, electric light plant,
commercial and civic improvement clubs
to say. Hotel rates are within the
reach of all and guests can rest assured
of fair and courteous treatment at all
times.
Newport has a population of 1,250 to
1,500, has a city council, fire depart
ment, owns its own water plant, parks,
etc. The Western State Bank is lo
cated hore and its stockholders are
sound business men, which is always
a credit to any city. The people of
Newport, as a whole, are wide awake,
good natured, and are always ready to
extend the glad hand of friendship to
those who enter her beautiful gates.
"Mr. and Mrs. Stranger," come to
Newport for your vacation, locate per
manently if you wish; the true saying
is, you will never regret it.
JOHN W. KELLY.
A Building Boom
Nowport, Nye Beach and Agnte
Beach are witnessing tho greatest ac
tivity in their history and there is no
doubt but that the present season will
record wonderful advancement.
Over one hundred new houses have
already been built in these localities
and plans are under way for many
more. The hotels have all been reno
vated and improved and their proprie
tors look forward to a very prosperous
season. Improvement and progress is
to bo seen everywhere and it iB all on
a conservative, substantial basis. The
Newport Commercial Club is especially
active and with such live wires as Mr.
Blanchard and Mr. Wygant leading the
bunch of excellent boosters composing
A Delightful Place
Newport on Yaquina Bay Is'the ideal
place to spend that summer vacation.
The cool, delightful climate the ocean
breezes, the surf bathing, the beautiful
woods and the smooth beaches are all
attractive.
Then the many side trips to the
Punch Bowl, the Yachats country and
Cape Perpetua, the Lighthouse at
Agate Beach, the giant timber on Big
Creek, and many other points of interest
add variety and pleasure. The beauti
ful and valuable agates found on the
boach are a never-failing attraction.

hotels that are well conducted and up
