'Willamette Valley Prune Growers As
sociation Thinks Other Method
Will Be Satisfactory.
'Tho Willamette Valley Prune Grow
ers ' Association hold its annual meet
ing yesterday afternoon and several
matters of importance were discussed.
The association will not form a pool
to secure prices for the 1913 erop, as
has been done heretofore. Prices will
be made this year on whatever condi
tions justify and it is thought by the
members that this plan will be far more
successful.
I Secretary H. S. Qile submitted his
report and the following prices are
shown to have been received for the
1912 crop:
Italians Twenties to thirties, 6.38
tents; thirties to forties, 5.93; forties
to fifties, 5.32; fifties to sixties, 4.23;
sixties to seventies, 3.05; seventies to
eighties, 2.58.
French Forties to fifties, 5.46; fif
tie to sixties, 4.36; sixties to sorenties,
3.51; seventies to eighties, 3.10; eighties
to nineties, 2.60; nineties to one hun
dreds, 2.02; ono hundreds and over, 1.39.
An election of officers, or in fact a re
election of officers, was held. The old
members of the bnnrd of directors wore
detained nnd W. J. Crawford was elect
ed president.

Pasadena, Cal., June 11. Mystery
surrounds the cause of the death of
Mrs. Alfred L. McLaren, wife of a
manufacturing druggist of tlm city,
who died at the Pasadena hospital to
day, following a dose of bichloride of
mercury, which it is claimed by her
husband she took by mistake. Mrs.
McLaren went to the medicine chist
before the other members of tho fami
ly were up this morning and took the
poison. She died two hours Inter with
out making a statement.

CONDITIONAL PARDON
IS ISSUED TO GREEN
Governor West today issued a condi
tional pardon to f'harles Green, who is
serving a four-months' sentence on the
rock pile in Portland. Green was con
victed on a chargo of vagrancy March
14. Through the efforts of Judge Taze
well nnd District Attorney Walter H.
Evans, of Multnomah county, Green
procured a position, and upon their rec
ommendations Governor AVest issued
the pardon.

sult of a midnight invasion of the paper
manufacturing plants of tho Crown Co
lumbia and Ilawley companies duriug
which, through alleged threats of vio
lence the employes were forced to close
lown operations, fifty men, reported t

After closing down the Crown Colum
bia and Hawlaye plants, the men made
their way to the Willamette paper mill,
but found the doors barred and did not
attempt to force an entrance.
They were met shortly afterward by
Sheriff Mass and several deputies nnd
placed underd arrest.
The appearance of the men was with
out warning and the workmen, taken
by surprise, readily complied with de
mands that they shut down the Ma
chines.
At the Ilawlay mill the invaders
turned out the lights and did eonsid
able damage to the belts.
Both mills were in operation today,
Officials were at a loss to account for
the attack as tho workers had recent
been voluntarily granted an 8-hour day
and so far as known entertained no
grievance against tho concerns affected
The invaders aro being held for ac
tion by the grand jury.

crush once for all tho rebellious Moros,
who, undor the Sultan of .Tolo, are en
trenched at Bagsag, Brigadier-General
Pershing, commander of the depart
ment of Mindndao was scheduled to ,
move today against the outlaws.
Pershing's force consists of a com
pany of regular infantry, a troop of j
cavalry, seven companies of Thillip
pino scouts, four mountain guns and a
machino gun squad. It is believed this ,
force will be sufficient to wipe out
the Moros with little loss to tho Americana.
State Superintendent Alderman has a
letter from tho navy department stnt
ing that tho letter and petition request
ing that the world-famed battleship
Oregon be the chosen one to lead tho
procession through the Panama canal,
had been receive! at !bc department and
that the petition would receive all the
consideration possible. The petition
was signed by some 62,200 school chil
dren.
WUd Riot on Levee.

Now prlcnns, La., June 11. Fifteen
persons were injured, five seriously, in i
a riot on the levee front hero today,
when 300 union men are alleged to have
attacked strikebreakers employed by
the United Fruit Company. Most of
the strikers were foreigners, and they
fired on policemen sent to quel the dis
order. The battle continued for an
hour, more than 100 shots being ex
changed. One hundred and thirteen ri
oters were arrested.

Oakland, Cal., June 11. Oakland is
in line to secure the International Con
gress of Education in 1915. At a con
ference between the officials of the
Panama-Pacific Exposition Company
and the commercial club, the exposition
officials pledged their support to Oak
land. A delegation from this city will
attend the national educational conven
tion in Salt Lake City July 5, and will
make an effort to land the event. Tho
congress will bring 30,000 people from
every part of tho world.

Long Beach, June 11. A rousing re
ception will be given the occupants of
the submarine boat when they emerge
from the water at 5 o'clock this after
noon, after having been submerged fur
36 hours. Mavor J. S. Hatch will be
present to break the seal that he placed
on the hatchway when tho boat went
down at 5 o'clock yesterday morning.
Mrs. John M. Gage, wife of the inven

State Bryan announced this afternoon
that the American reply to Japan's re
joinder regarding the California Inn
lew would be submitted to Ambnssaiio;
early next week.
Bryan took to President Wilson this
afternoon a note drafted by John Has
sett Moore, counsellor of the state de
partment which is to bo the basis of
the American reply. Bryan and the
president held a long consultation on
its terms. It is announced that the cab
inet as a whole will be asked to en
dorse the note before it is presented to
the Japanese ambassador.

Industrial Workers of the World, who
are on strike here against the big ho
siery mills, hlame each other today for
the death of Nicholetto Pendelopolou,
a woman who was killed lmt night in
a strike battle. The district attorney
Is probing the affair to ascertain, if
possible, which side in the affray fired
the fatal shot.
Several persons were severely hurt in
tho melee, in which the police charged
repeatedly into the mass of foreign
workmen, after the latter had failed to
disperse after the riot act was read.
