Score of 23 to 2 Recorded When Medi
ocre Aggregation Goes Up Against
the Local Stars.
The Eugene Moose ball team gave a
-weird exhibition yesterday in a contest
with the Salem Senators and when a
halt m called at the end of the sixth
frame, the score was 23 to 2 in favor of
the locals. The two scores recorded
for the Eugene aggregation were a re
sult of a combination of errors in the
fourth inning, and they failed to get a
hit off Bush, who pitched five innings,
orKeno, who pitched one. The Sena
tors hit Weber freely throughout the
game.
Inasmuch as the Senators are paid
for what they do in a game, so much
for a run, hit, and so on, they made
quite a 'killing yesterday. Manager!
Manager Baker stated last night that
the Moos) team is the only mediocre
one on his schedule this season and he 1
promises there will be no more such
swatfest hcte. The score:

WOMEN GIVE OCCUPATIONS
AS "MOVIE" STABS
Los Angeles, Cal. Aroused by news
paper accounts of arrests in several
California cities of women who have
permitted their occupations to be reg
istered on police records as moving
picture actresses, managers and leading
players with companies operating stu
dios on the west coast have made for
mal demands that more careful inquiries
be. made in the future into the occu
pations of arrested women to offset a
wave of "public sentiment which is
rapidly classing moving picture actres
ses with all that is disgraceful and
wrong, and seriously jeopardizing their
reputations."
To air the movement to bring about
a change from the stereotyped answers
which havo become general among the
women arrested for violations of the law,
actresses permanently identified with
various producing companies have writ
ton letters to the police headB in sever
al cities, asking their co-operation. To
this end a complete list of names of
actresses who have at any time been
employed for picture work has been
0 supplied to the
police department in
1, every largo city in the stato.

rocords of names are now kept at each
western studio, and at the end of each
woek a completed list of the names of
all women who havo been employed as

other cities.
"The practice of giving their occu
pation as moving picture actresses has
become entirely too common among
women under police surveillance," said
Aubrey M. Kennedy, general manager
of the Universal Film Manufacturing
company studios at Hollywood, Cal.
Within the last month there has been
a total of almost one thousand, women
arrested, and in nine out of ton cbhoa
whoro it was their first or second of-1
fense, and thoy wore not known to the
i police, thoy gave their occupation as
moving picture actresses.
"The publication of these untrue
roports is bound to create a widespread
public opinion against women vim are
regularly employed as experts in their
profession. Readers of the various news
papers are of the impression that a
moving picture actress is nothing mure
than a police charge on parole. It ifl
both unfair and unjust to the profes
sion. The actresses themselves are particu
larly indignant. Many of them have
written individual lettors to city of
ficials here and elsewhere, requesting
(hat assistance in bringing about more
critical examinations into the occupa
tions of arrested women.
Many young girls of acknowledged
ability as moving picture actresses, havo
felt the effects of tho unjust statements
111 tl-eir social relations. They nre
looked upon with disdain and suspicion
by many with whom thoy are not in
timately acquainted. In consequence of
this antagonistic attitude, a number of
the voungcr girls havo resignel their
positions.
