Assistant Manager I'm, his, of the Sa
lem Fruit Union, is sending out notices
to nil members of the union that the
pruno pool, which has been formed by
the union, will close April 1. After
that date no growers will be allowed to
sign up for the pool.
This year the pruno pool will repre
sent alinut 20 per cent more prunes than
have ever been represented in a pool
funned in Salem before, and about 50
per rent more than wero represented
last year. Fully 1000 acres will be rep
resented by tho long list of growers
who have signed.
I.awrenco K. Ailnins, a dried fruit
and canned goods brkoer from Chicago,
visited tho fruit union yesterday after
noon. For tho benefit of Mr. Adams,
Hob Paulas opened up a eouplo of cans
of loganberries, and declares that the
Chicago broker threw a regular fit in
his manifestation of delight over tho
delicious fruit. He ate both of the
cans. Mr, Adams is said to be very en
thusiastic ovor tho prospects for a
great crop of tho small fruits in tho
Willamette valley this season,
Tho fruit union Is shipping the last
of the dried prunes remaining from last
season. There aro still a few ears left.
A carload of loganberry posts were
received at the union yesterday, and
will be distributed at once. It is feared
that tho supply of posts will bo far too
short this season. At present orders
for about fivo carloads of the posts
have been lodged with the union. This
is far in excess of the usual demand at
this stage of the season. The order will
be filled as soon as possible. There are
orders for two cartoads of trellis wire
placed at present. More orders for
wire are expected in a few days.
In the line of extending its activity,
the union has put in a small stock of
mill feed and poultry supplies, includ
ing all kinds of poultry foods and
medicines. A line of alfalfa meal is al
so included in the mill feeds now on
hand. This stock ib a new feature at
the fruit union.
"SYRUP OF FIGS" REGULATES
STOMACH, LIVER AND BOWELS
Try This Delicious Fruit Laxative to Cleanse Your Stomach, Liver, and Thirty
Feet of Bowels of Sour Bile, Gases, Decaying Food and
Clogged-Up Waste.
Journal Want Advs. Bring Results.
If headachy, bilious, dizzy, tongue
coated, stomach sour nnd full of gas,
you belch undigested food and feel sick
nnd miserable, it means that your liver
is choked with sour bile and your thir
ty feet of bowels are clogged with ef
fete waste matter not properly carried
off. Constipation is worse than most
folks believe. It means that this waste
matter in the thirty feet of bowels de
cays into poisons, gases and acids and
that theso poisons aro then sucked into
tho blood through the very ducts which
should suck only nourishment to sus
tain tho body.
Most people drend physic. They think
of castor oil, salts and cathartic pills.
They shrink from tho after effects
so they postpone tho dose until they
get sick; then they do this liver and
uowel cleansing in a heroic way thoy
have a bowel .washday. That is all
wrong. If you will take a teaspoonful
of delicious Syrup of Figs tonight, you
will never reulize yon have taken any
thing until morning, when all the poi
sonous matter, sour bile and elogged-up
waste will bo moved on anil out of your
system, thoroughly but gently no grip
ing no nausea no weakness. Taking
Syrup of Figs' is a real pleasure. Don't
think you aro drugging yourself; it is
composed entirely of luscious figs, sen
na and aromaticsj and constant use can
not cause injury.
Ask your druggist for "Syrup of Figs
and Klixir of Senna," and look for thj
name, California Fig Syrup Company,
on the label. This is tho genuine old
reliable. Any other Fig Syrup offered
as good should be refused with con
tempt. Don 't bo imposod upon.
OAKLAND TO SEND
EXCURSION TO CARNIVAL
Mrs. Ella Watt, supremo instructor of
the Order of United Artisans, has com
pleted arrangements for an excursion
from Oakland, California, to Portland
during tho Rose Festival next June.
Tho chamber of commerce of Oakland
is co-operating with Mrs. Watt, and tho
excursion promises to he one of tho
biggest and most successful that will
visit Portland 's. big carnival. The pre
diction is now that all the excursionists
men and women will bo dressed in white
trimmed with blue nnd gold, Califor
nia 's colors. Thoro will bo at least 1)00
in tho crowd, and the excursion will be
run in sections, the Oakland chamber of
commerce occupying tho first and tho
Artisans and visitors tho other sections.
The whole party will take part in the
parado in Portland and it promises to
ho oue of the attractive features of the
many beautiful things always seen in
that always splendid pageant.
To Inspect Wiring.
At a meeting of tho city council next
Monday night tho fire and water com
mittee will report favorably on the bill
presented last. Monday night at tho sug
gestion of II. L. Vorso providing for ex
pert inspection of all electric wiring
that is installed in Salem buildings.
The inspection is to bo made in order
that the city may obtain full benefit
of a reduction in insurance rates
charged hero.
Some members of tho council favored
a fee chargo by the inspector for each
inspection mado. The Committee docs
not sanction thia plan, and will rec
ommend that the inspector be paid a
flat salary for the work. The city en
gineer will probably become the inspector.
