More than 400 lives are in peril this afternoon on the Canadian Royal Mall steamer Royal George, which grounded on the rocks In the St. Lawrence river, ten miles below Quebec dining a heuvy fog last nlyht. About three-fourths of the passengers were taken oft last night, but the remainder of the pas sengers, consisting of 225 men, wo men and children, and 200 crew, are still on the vessel. Reporls received here tills after noon say a terrific storm prevails, making it impossible for tugs to run sufficiently close to rescue the re maining pnsscngers and crew. There is only g'x feet of water under the vessel, and, although officials of the company admit the Royal George is in a desperate position, they say the shallowness of the water will prevent any loss of life. The Royal George carried 914 pas sengers, divided as follows: First cabin 55, seoond cabin 149, steeraee 710. Marine experts here say the ves sel will be a total loss.
