No comedy of tho pres ent generation has scored the success of this farce, tho press and public alike have been profuse In their praise of tho quality of tho play, production and cast of players. Offlcor COG" has recently ended a six months' engagement in Chicago, breaking all records for a comedy, and comes here almost directly from that city. At the same time a twin com pany has been delighting Now York for ono Beason, and the verdict from both cities is tliat It Is tho best comedy by an American author on tho Ameri can stage. "Officer 6G0" deals with a young millionaire globe trotter returning home to find bis bacholor quarters oc cupied by a burglar, who not satisfied with having appropriated the million aire's name and getting himself en gaged to a pretty society girl on tho strength of it, Is rapidly disposing of a flno collection of paintings gathered by tho aforosald millionaire from tho art centers of tho world. This is the situation when tho curtain goes up on the first act of "Officer 666," a melodramatic farco by Augustlu Mae Hugh, which Cohan and Harris will present in this city. How the real millionaire regains possession of his name and home and how ho eventually wins tho hand and heart of the sweet young thing who has plighted her troth to a member of the light-fingered gentry, under the Impression that ho is a Simon-pure scion of wealth and nodal position, is left to the telling of the actors.
