Hun dreds of ex-convlcts are in Jackson and It Is feared that some of those only recently released are planning; an attack on tho Jail. The death of General XIacArthur yesterday was the most dramatic. Apparently In the best of health, Mac Arthur was recall ing to tils old comrades an Incident of the Peach Tree creek campaign. He had told how Just 50 years ago he and his comrades had marched froiv Mil waukee on their Journey to the front. As the old soldiers realised that their famous comrade was dead, they one by one turned silently sway, then, as If by common impulse, knelt rev erently be','e the body. Y., Sept. 6. A wild demonstration marked the appearance of Governor Hiram Johnson, of Cali fornia, at the state progressive con- j vcntlon here today. For nine min utes the delegates stood on their chairs and cheered the progressive vice-presidential candidate. Johnson's speech was enthusiastic ally received. A wild yell greeted his declaration that the progressive cam paign might be appropriately termed a "revolution and that the' spirit of the movement was as strong in the east as In the west.
