Don't lie Afraid; Make Up Your Mind You Don't Care. Insomnia Is almost invariably the result of some nervous tension or ex citement that forbids mind and body to relax In slumber. In Its mild forms I believe it is largely a matter of habit, which people form by lying awake and thinking after they get Into bed. Their cure Is that of the Irishman who said that when he started to go to sleep he "paid atten tion to it." Too much mental exertion and too little physical exercise will often cause sleeplessness. A person who has a tendency to Insomnia for this reason should always try to get a good long, brisk walk In the even ing. If this is Impossible, some vig orous physical culture exercise In dlun clubs or dumbbells are good Just before retiring will often work wonders. Of course, a well ventilat ed sleeping room is absolutely nec ossary for restful Blumbor. But after all, the mosi wnuuon and fundamental cause for Insomnia la fear the dread that we are not go ing to sleep. If tho Idea occurs to you or forces Itself upon you that you are going to lie awake, contra dict tho notion flatly. Assure your self that of course' you are going to sleep that sleep Is natural and de sirable and that you have a right to It. When you get Into bed, relax physi cally and mentally. Got Into a com fortable position and He still don't toss and tumble about- Keep tho mind quiet don't allow It to go off on some interesting or exciting train of thought; simply lie quiet and wait for Bleep. But, of course, there are cases whero the nervous tension Is so In tense that mind and body absolutely refuse- to be soothed Into thU sleep Inviting attitude. If you find yoursolf In this condi tion, don't try counting sheep or re citing poetry; such expedients only Increase the malady by kooplng the mind on the thought of sleeplessness. The grand remedy for sleepless ness is to give up trying to sleep. It won't hurt you to stay awake all night If you must; you will be sure to sleep all the better the next night. At any rate you can He and rest. Got up if you feel like It, get a drink of water, rearrange your bedclothlng. Make yourself as comfortablo as pos sible. Now calmly and deliberately make up your mind to wait for morning. Let your thoughts wander Idly as they please, only keep tho Idea of rest in your mind as much as possi ble. There isn't more than one chance In a hundred that you won't fall off to sleep within 15 minutes. Right Time to Cut ( lover. When one-third of the heads have turned brown, cut the clover. It would mako a better quality of hay to cut It sooner, but then there is greater difficulty In curing it, so what would be gained by earlier cut ting, so far as digestible nutrients are concerned, would likely be lost In curing. Many farmers make the mistake of allowing their clover to stand too long, says James B. Hol oomb In Farm and Home. Some times this cannot be avoided on ac count of other work or weather con ditions. Where this Is the case we have nothing to Bay, but we want to urge farmers to make a strong effort to begin cutting their clover In time. When clover Is In full bloom when one-third of the heads have turned brown It has taken up all the plant food from the soil and the atmos phere that It Is going to take up; It contains all of the nutrients It ever will contain. Changes ' take place within the plant after the period of full bloom, and part of the protein, fats and the carbohydrates are transported from tho stems and leaves to the heads for developing the seed. The total amount of protein, fats and carbohy drates Is not thereby changed, but they are changed In form and when stored up In the seed become lost so far as cuttle food Is concerned. If the clover Is allowed to get too near ripe the forage loses food value. Not only does the protein In the stems and leaves docrcase during the seed formation period but the crude fiber Increases correspondingly and this, to a certain extent Interferes with the digestion of protein and carbohydrates. It Is reported the road to Crater Lake Is now open to automobiles to within three miles of the lake.
