CAPITAL BAKERY a. phone 1M 439 Court Btrtet MURDERER ARRESTED 'HAZEL TAKNEB ARRESTED, AD MITS HER HUSBAND KILLED WALLACE, WHEN HE FOUND HIM IX HIS WIFE'S BOOM MURDER MYSTERY CLEARED UP. Mrs. Hazel Tanner, wife of W. R. Tanner, and formerly Hazel Erwln, wag arrested at the Bllgh Hotel last night at 6:30 o'clock by officer Jack Whltlatch upon a clew given hlra by a stranger. The woman Is wanted In Portland for complicity In the murder of Ray W. Wallace, who was killed at the Collins hotel early In the morning of Wednesday, June 19 1912. The tip to the officer from the stranger was to the effect that If the officers would go to room 60 they would probably find the missing wo man. Patrolman Whltlach accord ingly went to the hotel office and found that there was but one woman registered at the hotel and that In the name of Helen McGee, so he de cided to take a chance. He went to her room and placed her under ar rest and upon being questioned, she told the officer the whole story. Ac cording to the woman's story she and her husband arrived In Salem early In the morning after the mur der was committed and took a room at the Richmond rooming house, which Is over the Spencer Hardware store. Here they remained until Fri day of the Fame week, when, accord ing to the woman's story, her hus band left going north. At; soon as detectives Vaughn and Lltherland ar rived from Eugene, where they had spent a strenuous day In a search for the girl, she was turned over to them, but she refused to talk after this. To Officer Whltlach she re lated the story of how she hod be come Intimate with Wallace, having on the evening before the murder gone to her room with him. She said that before she had removed her wraps and while looking In the mir ror, she saw the reflection of her husband as he entered the room and seen after he struck Wallace once. She then ran from the room and was followed close behind by her hus band. Mrs. Tanner told the policeman that she had seen her husband Jeal ous on former occasions and that he had said that If ever he caught her In company with Wallace that be would kill them both. Immediately after the killing De tectives Vaughn and Lltherland were put In charge of the case and have worked constantly on It Blnce. They made an extended examination of the scene of the murder and after every clew seemed to have been exhausted some old letters were discovered In an unused stove from which It ap peared that her name was Hazel Tanner. As soon as her name be came known, some unknown man called up the detectives by phone stating that her name was Erwln, and that she lived In Salem. Com ing Immediately to Salem they found that the woman's father formerly lived on Chemeketa street and that they now live at Albany. The father was communicated with, with the re sult that he sent a photograph of the girl and later came to Salem with a letter from her dated June Kith, three days before the murder was committed. The envelope was post marked at Salem. The girl's father rendered every assistance to tho of ficers possible In the search for his daughter and It was probably thtough some of the various photo graphs of her that she was located and arreted. Mrs. Tanner was married twice, her former huwnand's name was Pig' gott. 'She Is about 20 years old. Notice lo Contractors. WIFE OF THE Don't "Drug" A Headache by using "headache powders' they are dangerous! Headaches are almost curdy the result of a deranged system one of the many symptoms of dys pepsia and cannot be cured by the use of injurious corltar products harmful drugs opium, morphine or other narcotic stimulants the use of which causes a temporary benumbing effect, but does not bring refreshing quiet and trae repose. You may be quite certain that a "sick headache" is only one of the many symptoms of dyspepsia, and drugs acting on the nerves cannot re move the cause, as they do not go to the seat of the trouble. Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea is a scientific preparation of herbs, roots, leaves and seeds quickly act ing upon the stomach, liver, kidneys and bladder gently expelling all pois ons from the system and rebuilding waste tissue making it possible for the vital organs to properly perform their functions. Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea is purely vegetable absolutely harmless and is prompt and certain in action and results. William J. Bryan tore another chunk from the hide of the Tammany tiger today, when he and Senator O'Gorman, of New York, were chosen to write every word of the Democratic platform. They began work at 11 o'clock, upon adjournment of the resolution sub committee. At 4 o'clock this after noon they will show their anti-boss, anti-Tammany draft to the sub-com-mltee, and at 7 o'clock tonight will have It adopted by the whole commit tee. It will be reported tomorrow to the convention. Bryan completely routed the Mur-phy-Snllivan-Taggart combination by stragetlc moves In the sub-committee. When the 11 members met at 11 a. m they discussed rough drafts of vari ous planks. Then Senator Culbert son, of Texas suggested that Bryan and O'Gorman be entrusted with the composition work for the sub-committee. It went through with a whoop. Bryan and O'Gorman were then told to get down to business Immediately. They did so at once. Today they were writing their own Ideas, progressive to the Inst degree, just as they pleased Senator O'Gorman Is considered al most as progressive as Bryan, but the latter Is expected to dominate. Tam many has little solace In O'Gormnn's partnership with Bryan. The Tam many platform Is In the scrap heap. It will receive only "duo considera tion'' by the two platform composers. Senator Kern, chairman of the res olutions committee, was 111 and un able to attend the meeting today. O'Gorman and Bryan woro tho rulers of the "resolutions roost." The oth er nine members of the sub-committee decided against having any more persons with platform Ideas appear today for hearings. They decided Bryan and O'Gorman should be trusted with the whole Job. Other members !of the committee wished to Join In the convention proceedings, so Bryan and O'Gormnn were left alone to dictate every plank. Tonight, It Is expected, the Bryan-O'Gorman draft will he adopted by the general comniltte, with little opposition. TIIE TRIAL OF IIAtlFORD IIASGEGUO (DNITOD PRESS UA81D WIRI. Seattle, Wash-.
