Lorenzo Elliott, of Rainier, an In
dian war veteran, Is attending the en
campment. He lived in Salem In 18(59,
and could have bought land where
South Salem Is now (It was called
Sleepy Hollow then) for seven dollars

Auto and Car Collide
A collision between an automobile
and a street car occurred last night
at the corner of Loberty and Court
streets, in which each was about
equally damaged. The steering gear
Tender and fore part of the auto was
badly damaged, completely disabling
It, while 1he step of the enr was
damaged to considerable extent. The
car belonged to Conrad Stafrln, of
Dallas.
Moved Freight Depot
The Oregon Electric freight office
wns moved yesterday from High nnd
Mill streets to the new quarters of the
company at the coiner of Chemeketn

INJURED
Virgil Golden, who was seriously
Injured Saturday afternoon when
making a trip on a "slide for life"
apparatus which had been Installed
by a number of boys In the city, over
Mill Creek, and who was operated on
and hnd a section of his skull re
moved, Is said to be resting easy to
day nt the Salem hospital, and the
attending physicians entertain hope
for his recovery.

lire" was arranged by attaching a

a carriage. The length was 400 feet
iind the gravity was of sufficient
force to send the carriage across the
creek at great speed. When Golden
started across, the rope used to pull
the carriage buck, caught on the
l:ee and the pulley was dislodged.
Golden was hurled from It, falling a
(llt-tance of 2," feet, nnd alighting on
the rocks below. He sustained a
broken arm and a fractured skull.
Shortly after the accident convul
sions set In and an operation was
performed by Dr. Stolner and Dr.
Griffith, of the asylum, and Dr. Carl
ton Smith, a section of the skull be
ing removed.
