CROOKED OPTION IS RELEASED PUBLICITY GIVEN THE MATTER THROUGH THE JOURNAL BY GEROK C. MITTY, OF INESTIMA BLE YALUE TO SETTLEBS OF THE.SILETZ. Ed. Journal: I enclose herewith a copy of the release of the fraudulent otplonal contract, covering the Slletz, that was recorded at Toledo, Oregon. It such fraudulent optional con tract was recorded for the pur pose of swindling eastern Investors, as Secretary Olcott thinks, then the matter should be fully Investigated, even though the records are cleared of any cloud upon our titles; as bold daring and skillful operators of the S. A. D. Puter class, could prepare fraudulent deeds, abstracts and mort gages, and the optional contract and release could be used to make all appear genuine, and the swindle, if any, be completed before any other papers would appear for record. I believe that Secretary Olcott should no drop this matter; but in stead, should continue the Investiga tion and discover the guilty parties and learn their present and original plans and intentions, if possible. Please give this mutter careful consideration and act as you deem beat. Yours truly. GEO. C. MITTY. The Release. Know all men by these presents that I, A. M. IIICS ROOSTER VISITS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT Considerable confusion and some merriment was caused around the fire department Saturday night by the sudden appearance of a' big rooster of the species known as Rhode Is land Red. As to how the' rooster got there, no one knows better than Pete Graber. About midnight as Pete was returning to the station, It came Into his facetious mind that a little trick might be perpetrated on the Are boys, so he procured the fowl and took It to the dormitory of the de partment where it was perched on the head of the bed In which Frank Frelbert was asleep, as all good fire men should be at that hour of the night. This new surrounding did not seem to suit his excellency, the rooster, so he began to cluck and crow, much to the disturbance of the sound sleepers, who had great diffi culty In deciding what was the cause of the disturbance. As Frank Is quite a snorer, the rooster took it for a challenge, flopped his wings and crowed, much to the 'delight of Pete and much to the disgust of Frank, who In his dazed condition wanted to know what was the cause of all the disturbance. William lwan was appealed to to quell the uproar, but as this did not avail much in the way of restoring quiet or harmony In that otherwise peaceable department of the city. It took the efforts of fire chief Mark Savage to fire this night intruder from the dormitory, and this was done with strong pro- ACTUAL STARVATION.
