Manning, of the Salem A stract and Land company, and Mrs. Manning, have returned from San Die go, where they have been enjoying the sunny climate of the state. Mr. Manning states that during his stay of 30 days In that state that there was but two days on which rain fell, and then it. was only light showers. He is well tanned from the effects of the sun and wind, and feels fine on ac count of the recreation.. He says that for roads no place can beat California as the state spent hundreds of thou sands of dollars for the roads, and they are perfect. One can travel for miles on paved streets, past farms, and the pavements are kept so clean that they glisten in the sun's rays. In some places there are separate roads for teams and automobiles, and the country Is full of autos. The country around San Diego is drying up from the lack of rain, the farmers are without feed for their stock, and are driving them' away for better pasture. as heads of largo enterprises are men of great energy.
