A JOUniJAL REQUEST DID IT ALL MITIf E I LAST SHJIirS PAPtllS BK0l'HT FOIR RKPI.IKS IX TWO HOIKS MORE TODAY AM) ALSO A 12-POCM) BOY WHO ARKIYKD FOR THE OCCA. SI0X. Some. newspaiers put It: "If you see It In our paper It is so." The Journal has dropped that as unneces sary and redundant, because if It Is In The Journal everybody sees It. As a proof of this statement, here Is Just one circumstance. Yesterday the horse editor, who has a mania for figures, mathematical and feminine both, and, his wife says, a super abundance of curiosity, In writing up a little story about Allan Itynon's birthday and the 29th of February, suggested that there should be about one out of every 1461 persons born on February 2$, and that there should be from 10 to 12 with that birthday In Salem. The request was made that all such in the city send their names to The Journal. The first patiers went out of the of fice at 3:C6 yesterday afternoon. By 6:30, or less than two hours af. ter the first Journals loft the office, four answers had been received, and this morning, soon after the office opened, two more were phoned In. They are: George McOtlcbrlst, of the White House restaurant, born February 29, mill, two birthdays. . Thomas Kdwards, a waiter In the White House restaurant, born Feb ruary 29, 1888, five birthdays. Mrs. Charles Newman, born Feb ruary 28, 1888, five birthdays. Mr. H. M. Oearhart, 1164 Front street, born February 29, 1840, 17 birthdays in 72 years. This morning a phone gave anoth er, Mr. II. 8. Helle, 2fiB North Church street, born February 29, 1848. in birthdays. Now this, the horse editor contends, shows conclusively the wide circula tion of The Journal, and its viilue as an advertising medium. This alone would be sufficient to satisfy any rea sonable ninn Inquiring Into the sub ject, hut, as a clincher, and to show that a little wnnt notice In The Jour nal will bring what you want when you want It, and nUo the Influence and fitr-reachlng scope of the "Made In Oregon" movement, advocated by The Journal. Mr. and Mrs. Wilted had scarcely time to read and understand The Journal's request than the follow ing notice was phoned In. reaching the office early this morning: HORN. COLD III HEAD A cold generally attacks the weak est part, affecting 'lie eyes nnd ears In gome and producing nimul catarrh and throat troubles In "others. A cold Is due to an lnallninintlon of the membrane lining the air passages, and may be promptly cured with a little Ely's Cream Balm, which Im mediately relieves the inflammation and all the distressing symptoms, such as sneezing, coughing, running at the nose and eyes, hoarseness, sore throat, fever and headache. One reason why this pure, antiseptic Itaim acts so quickly Is because It Is applied directly to the tender sore surfaces. Kven In severe, chronic cases of catarrh, Kly's Cream Balm never falls to quickly and effctually check tho poisonous discharge which clog the head and throat, causing the dis gusting hawking, spitting and blow ing of the nose.
