Sweaters for the "S" Uojh
The executive commltn-e of the
Salem (high school had decided to
give line large sweaters to those foot
ball heroes who were so fortunate as
to win their ofllclnl "S" this year.
The sweaters were to have been here
ready for that purpose this morning,
but, owing to the unusual Christmas
shipping delay, they will not be
available until after the holidays.

Recitations are exceedingly slow
today at the Salem high school, for
tomorrow the Christmas holidays
commence. How can minds be on
the studies when presents are to be
purchased and vcelved? School will
not open again until the 2nd of Jan
uary, and perhaps the students think
the teachers are sorry, and they are

Citizens of the town of Meacham
have asked the railroad commission
to make an order directing the Ore
gon-washlngton Railroad company
to provide them a loading place. The
company they say, has so far re
fused their requests.

With the view of locating her bro
ther from whom she has not heard
for over eight years, Mrs.. Lizzie Frar
zler, of 2.621 Monroe street, Chicago,
has written Governor West. She says
that when last "heard of he was In
Oregon, and that since his departure
both his brothers hve died, and also
her husband.
Goes to the Marion .
C. J. Roop, who has been steward
at the Illihee club for- some two
years, has accepted the position of
head clerk at the Marlon Hotel. He
will fill the the vacancy made by
the departure of L. Pearl, former
head clerk, who has gone to Seattle
to take charge of the affairs of the
Seattle Golf and Country Club.
Will Help Library-
Secretary of State Olcott today
sent copies of the Oregon reports,
session laws and statutes to the li
brary of New York 1 which was de
stroyed by fire last spring. The value
of the books Is $172.50 and the dona
tion Is subject to confirmation by the
legislature. Should it fall to confirm
it then the New York library board
will pay for the books.
Wants f onrt Abolished
The railroad' commission today re
ceived a communication from the
railroad commission of Nevada say
ing that It had appealed to Its dele
gation in congress to abolish the
commerce court and to pass a law
expediting commerce cases in the fed
eral court, and asking this commis
sion to make a like appeal to its del
egation In congress. The commission
of this state has not decided JuBt
what Its action will be.
