PROFESSOR
ALDERMAN
AGAIN HOME
ATTENDED NATIONAL COVNTRY
LIITC CONGRESS AND ILLUS
TRATED THE WORK OF ORE.
GOVS ri RLIC SCHOOLS.
Professor Alderman, state superin
tendent of public Instruction, has just
returned from Spokane, whpre he has
been making an exhfblt of the devel
opment of Oregon's schools at the
National Country Life Congress,
which recently convened at that place
Thousands of people were In dally
attendance, every Rtate In the I'nlon
being represented. The interest the
farmers took In the meetings was es.
peclally notlceable( many coming
from other sta'cs In order to be pres
ent. In speaking of the assembly,
Mr. Alderman said:
"The congress was a success In
every way. Thousands of people
took active interest and the huge ar
mory was always crowded. The peo
ple seemed to be especially Interest,
ed In Oregon, and every bit of litera
ture we had on her resources and de
velopment was eagerly taken. Our
exhibit attracted much attention, and
some were surprised to learn that Ore
gon was In the front In school mat
ters. The system of rural high schools
as adopted In Linn and Lane coun
ties, met with much commendation,
and I believe It will be the working
out of this plan that will ultimately
bring the schools and home closer
together.
"The country life problem Is, to my
mind, one of the greatest questions
which faces the people of the state
and nation. We must get back to the
soil and stay there. In order to do
this the country home must become
the Ideal home. At the late congress
a model country home was shown,
which will save a mile of walking
dally to the housewife. Every coun
try home should be as good as the
bset country home, and every coun
try school should be as efficient as
her sister school In the city. The
country boy must be reached through
activities and the country school
must become the social center for de
bating, literary work and entertain
ment. "All of these subjects were gone
over by such speakers of national
reputation as P. O. Holden, of Iowa;
II .B. Cockeranof Maryland; E.
Favllle, of Nebraska, and J. E. Wing,
of Ohio. The governors of Wash
ington and Idaho also appeared, and
I was called on to represent Governor
West, since It was Impossible for him
to be present
"I believe that this congresg has
done permanent good for the country
life' movement, and that as a result
more Interest will be taken In the
farm and In the country schools."

Date Muffins
A New Way of Uslntf Datea
By Mrs. Janet McKenzie Hill, Editorof
(he Boston Cooking School Magazine
The value of dates as a food is hardly
appreciated. They are wholesome,
nutritious, and when used in K C Date
Muffins, make a recipe that is ap
preciated by the entire family.
C Data Muffin
One-third cup bulter; cup sugar;
J egg; H cup milk; cups four; J level
tcaspoonjuls K C Baking Powder; ft
teaspoonul salt; scant ft pound dates.
Cream the butter, add the sugar and
the egg, beaten light. Sift together
three times, the flour, baking powder
and salt; add these to the first mix'tnre,
alternately with the milk; beat
thoroughly and add the dates, stoned
and cut in pieces. To bake, have a
slow oven until the muffins double in
bulk, then increase heat to bake and
brown quickly. Muffins baked this way
will be light, appetizing and more
easily digested.
This is only one of the many appetiz
ing recipes found in the K C Cook's
liook.
The wonderful K C Cook's Book is
substantially bound and printed in nine
colors, contains ninety tested and easily
made recipes by Mrs. Janet McKenzie

The decision to move the troops on
Teheran followed the Persian parlia

and Russia have reached a definite
understanding that Persia shall be
partitioned unless Shuster is ousted
from his position. It is unknown
what Shuster will do.

SAGE TEA WAS
USED BY OUR
GRANDMOTHERS
It is easier to preserve the color of
the hair than to restore it, although
It is possible to do both. Our grand
mothers understood the secret. They
made a "sage tea" and their dark,
glossy locks long after middle life
waa due to this fact. Our mothers
have gray hairs before they are fifty,
but they are beginning to appreciate
the wisdom of our grandmothers in
using "sage tea," for their heads are
fast following suit.
The present generation has the ad
vantage of the past, in that it can get
a ready-to-use preparation called
Weyth's Sage and Sulphur Hair Re
newer. As a scalp tonic and color
restorer this preparation is vastly su
perior to the ordinary "sage tea"
made by our grandmothers.
This remedy is sold under guar

ed if it falls to do exactly as repre

If your hair Is losing color or com

This preparation is offered to the

Deafness Tunnot Be Cure
by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
There is only one way to cure deaf
ness, and that is by constitutional
remedies. Deafness Is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mucus lining
of the eustachian tube. When this
tube is inflamed you have a rumbling
sound or imperfect hearing, and when
it is entirely closed, deafness is the
result, and unless the Inflammation
can be taken out and this tube re
stored to its normal condition, hearing
will be destroyed forever; nine cases
out of ten, are caused by catarrh,
which is nothing but an inflamed con
