A tviileal Western elrl Is MIbs

Inn tho rolo of Margaret In "The
Flower of tho Ranch," Joseph K.
Howard's new musical comedy com
ing to the Grand Friday flight.
Margaret In a "school marm on
a ranch In California, whwe the
scenes of the day are laid. She Is
youiiK. and the typical Western cow
girl, who can ride u bucking broncho
or ropo a wild steer, as wel las teach
the youngsters their I'UBona. -Mai-caret
enters early In the first act
and there Isn't a shadow of a doubt
In the minds of the. audience but
what MIsk Nordendorf Is all the
part requires. She Is pretty and at
tractive to look upon, nud moves
about with a Western air that makes
one feel that they are on tho level
plains, where the characters are true
tn llfo.
Her first musical number, "C'lesr-
mont." affords her an opportunity to
convey to tho audience that she Is
tiffed with nn excellent voice, ami
again In, "Lil-I.u ilalie" and "Swen
heart Ties" she sings and danci-s
with such bewitching smiles and
fetch y nils that she wins and holds
tho audience throughout the Per
formance. Not only docs she sing
well, but displays ability as an act
ress, for she has several strong dra
matic scenes. Taken all in all, Miss
de Nordendorf is an artist of excep
tional abllltly, tho possensor of a rich
soprano voice and a clever actress.

A SPLENDID PLAY
WELL WRITTEN
FINELY ACTED
If Christianity nnd Judlasm took
the commandment "Love Tliy Neigh
bor as Thyself", and contented them
selves with Interpreting the word
"neighbor" In n somewhat limited
wny by applying It to the ono who
lives In "The House Next Door
then the sent! nt of race hatred
around which tills beautiful enter
taining and morally educating com
edy has been woven, would be n
tiling of the pant. It could no longer
bo the mainspring of n modern play
Hut alas, this is not the case, and
racial prejudice above all of Oon-
tlle against tho Jew Is a sad but
real fact In life.
Therefore, both Christian nnd Jew
should be thankful for an opportun
ity to witness a performance of "The
IIouho Next Door". It Is n play that
on the whole should prove nn elil
clent force on behalf of sympathy
and good will between Christian and
Jew. Iloth In seeing It, will derive
much pleasure, anil cannot possibly
escape moral profit. While It alms
merely to entertain, It Incidentally
Inculcates mutual understanding and
amity between the two.
The play, as given nt the (lalety
Theater In New York City, will be
seen at The (irand opera house, Mon
day evening, October !. with William
V. Mong in Hie leading ride, and a
company of players of note. This at
traction promises to be one of t lie
best offerings of the season.

of tho Seventh Ward Improvement

resolutions were passed disproving
of tho plan, and tho secretary was In
