DIsenss Vice The minsters of the city held a meeting Monday morning at which the subject of vice and a restricted district was discussed. Chief Hamil ton attended by request and voiced his views on the subject, which were not in harmony with those ot the ministers he favoring, and they ob jecting to the restricted district plan. Wyant, who had been In the Willamette Sanatorium for two weeks or more, following a serious operation, has recovered so rapidly that Saturday evening she was taken to her home. Banqueted Prisoners Superintendent James of the prison, showed his appreciation of the work done by the convicts at the asylum fire, by giving: thnsn nhn nortlninotnd a banquet, to which about 40 did am ple Justice. It was the nice thing to do, and shows that Mr. James under stands the people he has in charge realizes that they are men, even though under a cloud temporarily, and treats them as such. Such little things as that banquet, go further towards encouraging and bettering the prisoners than a thousand strait jackets and a hundred punitive measures. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. Frederick Will Rend Frederick Will, a pioneer of Au rora, died at his home there Sunday morning. He was ohm at Bethel. Missouri, In 1848, crossed the plains in 1863, and located In Aurora, where with the exception of 10 years In Portland he had lived ever since. The funeral will be held tomorrow after noon at 2 o'clock from the family home at Aurora, under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. A Fine Render The reading of Parsifal by Mrs. Miller, of St. Paul, at the First Meth odist church Sunday in lieu of the regular services was a thoroughly en joyable event. Mrs. Miller is a na tural elocutionist and has perfect control of a very rich, full voice. Her inflections, emlihasis, expression and intoning gava the great poem a new and vastly larger meaning to the larger portion of the audiene. With Eastern Firm H. R. BLOODHOUNDS FAILED TO FOLLOW HIM Escaping from the state institution for Feeble Mnded Saturday morning, Fred Campbell, an epileptic, despite that blood hounds were put on his trail succeeded in eluding the author ities until Sunday when he was lo cated and returned to the Institution after the hounds had abandoned the search. Campbell made his escape just at breakfast time. It was time for him to be attacked by an epileptic fit and he had been put in hs room In a straight jacket. While the attendant was temporarily away he effected his escape. Fearing that while suffering with the spell that he might die, the penitentiary blood hounds were put Into service and all of the afternoon Saturday and most of Saturday night they searched in vain. Judge Kelly yesterday afternoon adjourned the law department nf the circuit court until June 13. The railroad company asked for the condemnation of the property on which the rink Is situated as It was needed for track purposes. It al leged that though it had endeavored to arrive at a settlement with the owners of the rink it had failed and asked the court to fix a price upon the property.
