"Jack" 'May; a prominent woman ag riculturist from Norfolk, England, has just arrived in this country to take up (arming on a large scale. Miss Nay had some difficulty with the im- migration authorities at Halifax ion her arrival, due In part to official failure to realize that it was her right to wear a heavy knitted man's sweat er, a peaked cloth cap, square-toed boots and corduroy trousers. The tr nether garments, wtorn not affected by "Jack" May are not freakish hobble pantlets or not demlculottes, but the real thing. She has been wearing this garb for 10 years In England, where she has been farming ver since she has been old enough to have her own way. Finding skirts a nuisance one af ternoon when haying, she walked in to a nearby barn and shut the door. When she came out her brother's trousers had replaced the skirts. For a time after this Miss May wore grousers In the fields and skirts when going out or driving, but H was not long before she discarded the clinging draperies altogether. "Jack" May Is said to be a daughter of Ad miral May. RODY OF FREAK IS FOUND Indian in Oklahoma Was Double Ex cept as to Trunk. Oklahoma City, Okla., April 27. The body of an Indian boy with two heads, four arms and four legs was discovered In a cave near Okmulgee, Okla., Tuesday by Emmons Lowe, a farmer boy, while hunting rabbits. The body is nearly five feet tall. The arms are all of the same length and reach far below the knees. 'The flesh on the bones has dried, and apparent ly there has been no decay. Old residents near the cave where the monstrosity was fonndl say they remember such an Indian boy, and that he has 'Ween missing Jor nearly ten years. People who remember the declared it walked and talked aa if i were not different from normal j human beings. The monstrosity was i in reality two persons with one very wide, and the lower limbs per fectly developed. The bodies are Joined together below the shoulders, and from there down to the hips. Physicians assert that there were really two persons, and that they were grown together so that not even a surgical operation could have separated them. o Gives Aid to Strikers. POWOIM WOULD HAVE VALLEY GATHER FINE EXHIBIT ALBANY COMMERCIAL CLUB SUG GESTS THE WHOLE VALLEY UMTIXG IN SENDING EXHIBITS TO EASTERN CITIES THIS FALL The Albany Herald of Tuesday says : At the regular meeting of the board of directors iof the Commercial Club last night a communication from the management of the Second An nual Land) Show at Omaha, Neb., was read, asking the club to prepare a suitable exhibit of the resources of this county for exhibition at the show which will be held in October. Dis- cussion of the subject resulted In the decision that the enterprise was too extensive and too expensive for the Albany Commercial Club to carry to successful completion alone, and a motion prevailed authorizing the chair to appoint a committee of three to confer with the other towns and counties of the Willamette valley, with a view to organizing the various commercial clubs of the whole valley for the purpose of preparing one large, complete and exhaustive ex hibit of the resources of the entire valley, and send it to the show at Omaha as an exhibit from the famous Willamette valley of Oregon, allow ing each town or commercial club to do such side advertising as each might elect. The Idea was that the exhibit should bo prepared on a hroader basis, and that it would be of much greater benefit to each of the towns and counties on such a co-operative plan. It was also argued that by each club assisting In the gathering of the exhibit and sharing equally in the expense the exhibit would be larger and more varied and at much less ex pense. It will be the purpose of the com mittee of three of the Albany Com mercial Club to confer with the clubs of Salem, CorvaPis, Eugene, Browns ville, Lebanon, Springfield and others at an early date, to ascertain if the plan suggested cannot be successfully worked out. This exhibit would be on display at the land shows'at Omaha, St. Paul and Chlcngo, as sufficient time inter venes between the dates of each to allow the removal and arrangement of the exhibit at all three. Mr. Senders suggested the advis ability of beginning the work of gath ering the exhibit at once, since the season for securing suitable samples of mohaire was now nearly over, while the asparagus and rhubarb season was also at hand. It was the sense of the meeting that the farmers of the county be asked to bring to the club room samples of their bet mohair and oth er products, such aa fruits, grains and grasses In their season, leaving them at the club room. These various samples will receive special mention In the local press as they are brought in, together with the pro ducer's name, and such other lnfor. matlon aa may be secured relative to the conditions under which they were produced. WOULD DODGE THE PAYMENT Evdently desiring to evade the payment to the state of a bill of $3,255.57 for the care of feeble mind ed persons of Multnomah county at the State Feeble Mlnde institution, the auditor of that county by way of a pretended counter-claim has pre sented to the, secretary of state a bill against the state for the sum of $9,000 for the care of what he al leges to be non-resident poor. The state law provides that each county shall pay the state for the care of its patients at the State In stitution for Feeble-Minded and some time ago State Treasurer Kay sent a bill to the auditor of Multnomah county for the amount given above. Some time elapsed before word was received from the county authorities and when It did come It was In the way of a counter-claim for .$9,000 against the state for the care by Multnomah county of non-resident poor. The bill dates back to the year 1903, and while the law requires the state to reimburse counties for money expended in the care of non resident poor, it is incumbent upon the county to submit absolute proof as to the residence of the poor pro vided for and this the county author ities are unable to do.
