Arrested for Threats
N. A. Cage, who Uvea near Silver
ton, was brought to Salem last night
by Constable Lewis and arraigned be
fore Judge Webster on a charge of
threatening the life of another. The
charges were preferred by J. E.
Thomas. Cage waived examination,
gave ball, and returned to his home.

Judge Morrow, of Portland, has In
formed hlra that there Is plenty of
room In the prison for Mrs. Reran.
There are two wards provided! for fe
male prisoners, and both of these are
vacant, and have been so for two
years. It Is probable, In view of this,
that Mrs. Kereh will be sent to the
prison In tha near future.

Bourne yesterday Introduced a bill
granting Oregon an additional mil
lion acres of land for use under the
Carey act State Engineer Lewis is
here to arrange with the Geographi
cal. Survey for co-operative work
with the state in completing topo
graphical surveys near Portland and
extension surveys north from Eugene.
He Is also arranging with the Bureau
of Soils of the Agricultural Depart
ment for soil surveys in Oregon.

cussed charges that the Guggenhetms
had been allowed to seize the Chu
gach forest right of way to Controll
er bay, leading from the Alaska coal
fields, and that the administration's
answer will ba. a general disclaimer
of the charges. . It is expected that
President Taf will personally pre
pare the answer, and that It will de
ny the Guggenhelms were granted 'a
monopoly. It will contend that the
officials of the Controller Bay rail
way swore that they had no connec
tion with the Guggenheinu.

Berger, Socialist congressman from
Milwaukee, today presented a petition
signed by 89,000 American citizens,
demanding the recall of the United
States troops from the Mexican bor
der. , it'i
"This is a proof," said Berger, "that
the bloody and tyrannical character
of the Diaz government Is under
stood and the justice of the uprising
against him Is appreciated by the
majority of Americans."
