LEGISLATORS PROVIDED THEM SELVES WITH TWO SETS OF THE OREGON' CODE AND OTHER LAW BOOKS, AND CUT THE JUS TICES OF THE PEACE OUT. I Evidently believing that the Jus tlces of the peace and the majority of j county officers had but little need of a set of Lord's Oregon Laws but that j it was essential to the welfare of the j good state of Oregon that the mem- j bers of the legislature be provided : with them, the last legislature by I resolution and afterwards by law ap-! and at the same time repealed a law giving a set to the Justice of the peace and the county officers. Take by Resolution. When the last legislature cpn vened and it had hardly convened at that both the senate and house passed a resolution that each mem ber be provided with a copy of Lord's Oregon Laws. The house went the senate one better and also provided its members with a costly digest con taining the decisions of the supreme court of Oregon and cases In point from other states, Some one in the senate tried to get that kind of a resolution through that body also, but It was too much for the dignified senators and they voted it down. Take By Law. . Along towards the last of the ses sion the legislature passed a law on the subject and which provided that each legislator should have a set of the laws. Now the legislature of 1 0AQ afiaf niiinli matnt.fi rnflontlnn nn 1 the subject decided that the justice of the peace should be given each a set of the state's laws and passed an act to that effect. The last legisla ture with equally as mature a re flection but with less of It In the same law appropriating to themselves a set, repealed this law, and provided that only the sheriff, county treasur er, assessor and county courts should have sets. That leaves the justices of the peace and the other county officers out in the cold. o- A BROOKS STORE BURGLARIZED LAST NIGHT Advices were received this morn ing by Sheriff Minto from the officers at Brooks informing him that the Ramp & Ramp store was burglarized last night and asking him. to keqp. a lookout for the burglars.
