penditure of the public funds for
warlike preparations. And In par

such funds for fortification of the
Panama Canal, and we urge the gov

Zone."
And said in part that war might be
prevented by disarmament easier
than with armies and navies. This,
he said, had been proven by our re
lations with Canada. And the three
fold tie of commerce, religion, and
j scientific development between this
country and Japan, and China is a
much surer grounds for peace than
any fortifications could be.
The Friends church throughout
civilized nations has always had
much to do with the great' peace
movement, and they are looking for
ward to the day when our nation
will cease to expend 70 per cent of
our national funds for the building of
an army and navy.
After an extended discussion of the
