The striko, save the Globe, was agreed upon at h con gress of the International Transpor tation workers' Association at Copen hagen last August, as a result ofthe refusal of owners to discuss the pro posals of the seamen's union in Eu rope. Since then, the Globe asserts, the union leaders have been actively plan ning the strike, and it ls predicted that it may begin at any time. Patten, retired cotton and wheat broker, by Paul Burmaster, president of what he terms the Chicago Anti Gambling League, Burmastr stated today that he will soon institute a suit against J. Ogden Armour of like character. This is said to be to re cover money Armour has won in the wheat pit. In each case. It is alleged, that the amounts represent three times the winnings of the defendants on the board of trade In the last two years. The suits are brought on the theory that speculation on the board of trade Is gambling, and the statue Invoked is the one allowing an interested par ty to a gambling transaction to sue for three times the amount lost, or. If such a one has hot sued within six months after the alleged loss, any cit izen may sue, half of the amount re covered going to the state and half to the person suing. The postal savings bank of Klamath Falls opened for business today. It is ei pected that several hundreds of dol- lare will be deposited before the close of business tonight. The bank was to have been opened yesterday, but a delay In preliminary retails cauand a postponement of one day. The government Is conducting a few banks throughout the country as an experiment, before the scope of the new act is enlarged.
