CIIARLEH W. JAMES,
Sl'IT. STATE PENTTEXTIAHV,
There Is no question In the minds
of those best posted on the subject
that Charles W. James, has made one
of the best superintendents of the
State Pdnltentiary that the state of
Oregon has ever had and thero is a
very generally expressed sentiment
that he should be retained In his
present position regardless of politics,
simply because his administration
has buen along progressive and hu

Institution conducted In a manner
highly satisfactory to the people as
a whole. Mr- James is a gentleman
of ripe judgment and wide experi

unquestionably has a strong Influence
for good In handling men committed
to the penitentiary. He also has
fine foecutlve ability and thoroughly
capable of handling even much more
complex affairs than confront him
as superintendent of the penitentiary.
Before being appointed to his present
position eight years ago Mr. James
was member of the school board at

Small Tracts
The demand for small tracts was never greater than tpday.
The first consideration in selecting a tract of land should be the
quality of tbe soil. After that comes the location, cost, terms
and the prospective value.
In all these points we claim the Blue Ribbon for Hollywood,
a subdiviison of a 300-acre farm, located just a mile east of
the State Fair Grounds on the Salem-Silverton road.
Hollywood is cut up into five-acre tracts. The soil is a rich
black loam, very productive and perfectly drained; a very Import
ant feature to be considered in buying land. It is adapted to the
growth of fruits of all kinds, berries, vegetables and grain.

I Ejects a soothing cure for the nervous ills of life. ;
Makes life more pleasant and cheers the heavy heart.
Brings good fellowship to all who partake in moderation;
Enlivens the spirit of the downcast and disheartened.
Endows existence with hopes and aspirations.
Restores man to fullness of strength and activity.
