This afternoon the Grand Army Post and Woman's Belief Corps gave a joint reception to General Shaw of Portland, commander-la-chlef of the Grand Army of the Republic of Ore gon. They had their regular ses sions and then gave way with a short program to hear tho big talk from their chief of the veterans. Prepar ations are being made in Grand Army circles for the state encamp ment, to be held at Astoria. The people of Astoria aro noted for their cordial hospitality. entertained their gentlemen frlonds. bands, on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Geo. H. Dunsford on South Commercial street in honor of the newly-weds, Mr. and Mrs. Albert telner. About thirty were present and they were elegantly entertained at progressiva five hundred and re freshments were served. The marriage of Miss Marian eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. His funeral and that of hif mother, who died in Chicago half an hour before her son suc cumbed in New York will be held On Friday afternoon Mls3 Loueen Moreland entertained a party if young friends at the family home on East State street In honor of Miss Ruth Honeyman of Portland, who engaged to be married April 12th to Lieutenant Barker, stationed at Fort Cinnabar, Montana. The wed ding will take place at tho home nf tho bride's mother in Portland. Mrs. Honeyman is prominent in Y. W. C, A. circles and Miss Honeyman is prominent in social circles at the Oregon metropolis. Lieut. Barker bears the distinction of being the youngest officer ever graduated from West Point. Miss Moreland had a charming circle of Salem society girls to meet her friend who spending a week here. They were kept,busy sewing on a trousseau of magnificent proportions and delic ious refreshments were served. The Euterpean Society had a pro gram Tuesday evening, In charge of an excellent program committee, and 12,5 people enjoyed the evening of poetry, music and art at the High School assembly room. Lila Craw ford characterized the English paint er. Watts; Charles Galloway gave a splendid critique of tho poet, Shel ley, and Prof. Roberts gave an Intel ligent estimate of the composer. Macdowell. Mrs. Walters and Prof Hull sang selections from him; Mrs. Percy Cotter and Clark Belknap gave recitations from Shelley, and Prof. B. T. Moores gave the literary setting for the occasion. Tho Cherry City Embroidery club The delightful play, "Diamond In Heart" under the direction of Sara Brown Savage was presented by the St. Joseph's Society of the Catholic church of this city last night in re hearsal at the state Insane asylum. Entertained Young Friends. Miss Nanell Bloom entertained a number of young friends on Mondny afternoon from 2:30 to 5 p. m., at the home of her parents on East Marlon street. There were eight girl friends present, and they were served with refreshments after playing progres sive whist, at which the first prize wont to Lucille Jaskoskl and the next to Miss Marie uanipbell. A very en joyable afternoon was spent. On Wednesday, March 30, at Port land, a beautiful church wedding was celebrated. It was that of Miss Ahlma Hallock and Vyvyan Henry Dent, which took place at St. Stephen's church at 8 o'clock p. m. Rev. Ram sey read the marriage service. The bride was given away by her brother, R. Blaln Hallock. The matron of honor was Mrs. N. James B. Welch, a "The Red Mill."
