JOHNSON & CO. -3SS State Street Salem, Oregon The Union 'Revival meetings that have been in progress at the Unlver city tabernacle the past two weeks are proving to bo not only a great success, but altogether the greatest thing in a religious way that the city has ever seen. The tabernacle Is being comfortably filled every ov ening, and on Sunday evening fully a thousand people went away unable to find stnndlngroom. The weather is proving favorable and the people are showing a great Interest In the meetings. In pursuance Qf the plan adopted by the ministerial association before the meetings were begun, all the churches have their own services on Sunday mornirtg. Tomorrow there will be meetings in the tabernacle In the afternoon and evening. The af ternoon meeting will be a Mothers' Meeting. Mothers are especially in vited, but everybody will be wel come. Every person attending that meeting is requested to wear a white ribbon in honor of Mother. Sir. Taylor has asked that every person attending that meeting shall write a letter to Mother If she is living, and if she is not, that some act of kindness in honor of her be rendered to some other mother. It is quite probable that at both this and the evening meeting the building will bo much too small to hold the people that wish to attend The attendance all throu'gh the week lias been much larger than at the corresponding time the previous of thoso who havo taken, a stand for Christ passed the five hundred mark Thursday night, and the first invita tion was given last Sunday morning at the state penitentiary. Tho preparations for these meet ings have been carried, on with unus ual economy, but It is a largo affair, and at tho best the expense account Is quite an amount. Tho basket col lections so far havo amounted to about $275, tvp to and 'including Thursday evening. The amount re maining to bo provided for will be raised by a special effort on Sunday. As soon an tho expenses are provided for, thero will bo no more offerings asked for until tho last Sunday of the campaign. On Sunday morning, Mr. Taylor and tho evangelistic company will 'hold a scrvico at tho reform school. SUGGESTIVE QUESTIONS ON THE SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON BY REV. DR. ML C DICKINSON, Manager THE OREGON Mrs. Taylor, Cornet Soloist, at the Tabernacle. week. ' There is a widespread Inter est in these meetings. People are not only attending them, but they are talking about them. Mr. Taylor has a characteristic manner of put ting things, a way that makes you laugh at the time, but it is a way that makes you think, and think hard. It Is a way that takes hold of people, and keeps hold of them. And with it all, there is nothing of pro fessional egotism about him. Then besides tho attraction of Mr. Taylor's preaching there is the music. "While tho choir Is not fall every evening through tho week, there Is always a good-sized chorus present, and tho singing, under the direction of Mr. Wegner, Is very attractive and In spiring. . Tho orchestra is ' present much of tho time, and "adds material ly to the beauty and power of the music. In her cornet solos Mrs. Taylor does some wonderfully effec tive work. She has a fine instru ment and she is a master of tho soft, sweet tones that touch the hearts of those who hear. Mr. Wegner- is very effective in hisolos. They are plain ly a part of his religion and they are given with the manifest purpose of leading those who hear to accept Christ. The results of the meetings so far are very encouraging.
