A scandal of a very delicate order Is being aired at Tangent, a small place just south of this city. It is stated thnt a largo holo can bo seen in the scum covering tho stagnant wator through which the body was dropped. An Investigation will probably bo made at once to ascertain tho facts of tho case. Fred Fisher of this city has Just boon notified from Washington of his commission of consul general at Mukden. The prohibition forces failed to carry a single pre cinct In tho city, and it was evldoncod that tho result represented tho true sontlmnt of the city by tho fact that out of the 2 COO electors regis tered, 2640 cast their votes. Though tho police wero on hand to seo that there was no disorder, their pres ence was not needed, as thero was not tho slightest attempt at rough ness or rowdyism. The election terminated a long and bitter campaign, started before tho city primary light was on, and later curiously intermixed with local politics. In tho wind-up of tho strug gle today tho "wets" pressed into servico every automobile in tho city, while tho "drys" mado freo use of hacks, and further increased their efforts at tho polls by having women minglo among tho crowds, bearing banners urging the men to voto against license. A Thrilling Rescue. How Bert R. Lean, of Chony, Wash., was saved from a frightful death is a story to thrill tho world. Harold Jefferson returned last night from a commercial trip on tho road between Salem and Albany. Ho reports that tho Jefforson bridge over tho Santiam, which was wash od out by tho recent high water, has not boon rebuilt. Ho also states that there is some indignation among the people of Jefferson and vicinity, on account of tho slowness of the commissioners of this county for allowing tho bridgo to remain in its present condition. Tho mer chants of Albany are losing trade by tho bridgo not boing repaired. Mr. Jackson says ho lost several orders for his goods because of thl3 fact. Albany Herald.
