Journal: At the county road meeting of the lGth and 17th there were various ideas on tho plan of road construc tion. Also on ways and means of raising funds for same. But of all these to meet the present "needs" of tho various road districts, was the final point to be settled. That the county court could see their way to expend the four-mills levy that was ordered at said road meeting In a way that would be satisfactory to all parts of the county. The one great question with the court is a uniform basis or plan of work. I have a few suggestions to make that I think are worth considering. Now I shall speak for the county as a whole: First, say wo have four mills, or any amount the county may liovy. Then those road districts that make a special levy to grade-rock, both coarse and fine rock, and finiBh their roads as far as tho money will go. Put in cement tiling for small creeks and water outlets, the tiling to be paid for by said road district. the county crushing the rock and rolling same out of the county fund. Then in districts whero special taxes are levied, and no rock IB ac cessible at the present time, uses all the money, the same as in districts where no levy is made by the dis trlct. namely: Make all grades on road with dirt only. Put in cement tiling or dram age, and be sure not to make the road bed to wide but what there W"l be a good slope each way from the centter of said road. Then on an dirt roads of this kind the county court ordered tho King road drag to be used the following winter. when even tho road gets small tracks from the travel on it. So tho water stands, use tho drag, then in a short time again. If much travel UBe it again. Keep it up all winter, one drag can be used on two miles of road very conveniently. When spring comes you will be surprised indeed to see what good roads' you have had all winter, solid roads, no ruts, mud holes, etc, and at a minimum cost also. Should tho present county court adopt a plan of this kind and put it in force this spring they would have gone a long way in solving thiB great question. It is all practical under oUr present laws and conditions. Every district can build permanent roads, according to their means and materials at hand. Now, in conclusion, we will soon have electric lines through the coun ty, by some stone quarry, then rock can be put in those districts that need it, at a very small cost. Very respectfully, C. H. During tho developmental, or growing period of life, tho stomach is under greater strain than, in an other epoch, for the reason that bodily growth is rapid in' children, and the system requires a consider able amount of material to construct new tissue a much greater amount than after full growth has been at tained. In the adult, all that Is required is a sufficient quantity of food to rebuild the worn-out old tissues, but in children, an extra amount of woll-dlgested nutritious food Is nec essary to build up strong muscle, bone, cartilage, teeth, nerve, blood and brain. Well-fed children with strong di gestions, Invariably grow to bo largo, powerful, healthy men and women, with sound minds and sound bodies; while children who are sickly, nervous, peevish, irrita ble, and continually "tired-out," are nearly always victims of indigestion, and novor atttnin their full growth, or an average amount of strength, unless the stomach weakness is cured before reaching adult life. During the adolescent, or forma tive period of life, parents should make ovory effort to build up their children, so that good health, a strong constitution, and an abun dance of vim,, vigor, vitality and 9nergy may be an inheritance in la ter years. Too often the mistake is made of attempting to build up tho bodtes of weak, sickly children ny dosing them with nervo and blood tonics, or tho emulsion of cod liver oil, which tend to upset the stomach and thus make matters worse. STUAKT'S DYSPEPSIA TABLETS will build up and strengthen weak, sickly, under-developed and slow- growing children, by digesting their food thoroughly and assisting in its absorption and assimilation. They digest food of every kind very com pletely, including the vitalizing al bumen of eggs, the fibrin of meats, the casein of milk and cheese, and tho carbo-hydrates of bread, rice, po tatoes, etc., so that the system is supplied with all tho material which is essential to construct large bone, heavy muscle, strong nerves, awtell developed brain, rich, red blood, and plenty of sound, healthy flesh, pro ducing broad shoulders and a goodly neignt ana general development. If you deslne tb have your chil dren grow up big, strong, healthy and powerful in mind and body, see that their digestion is kept strong and efficient, and if found weak, give them Stuart's Dyspepcia Tablets af ter each meal, In order that they may get the full benefit of the food they eat, and you will be rewarded by seeing them attain a far bettor than average development, and be sides you may be , saved many a doctor s bill. Any old turkey is demanding 30 cents per pound for his scalp, and, from the present indications, it Ib predicted that thoy will call for a atlll higher price before the last fatal day, Fri day, arrives. Tho Thanksgiving holidays prac tically consumed all the moat avail able turkeys, although there are yet many of them alive In this vicinity. The farmers and other peoplo who make a business of raising turkeys are not anxious to disposo of their stock of fowls, and tho local markets are negotiating with farmers in tho outlying districts for turkoys. Thanksgiving turkeys demanded 25 cents per pound, or five cents lower than the present market quotations. Geese and ducks seem to bo the pop ular fowl for Christmas feasts, and Salem dealers In poultry aro dispos ing of many of them. Geese sell for 22 cents, while chlckona are quoted at 25 cents. Ducks aro on a par with geese. Up to the present time the demand for turkeys and other ChristmnB dinner eatables, in the way of" fowl, has not been ' very persistent, and the general concensus of opinion Is that the Salem Dublic will adopt tho old-style of "cheekon" pie, rather than Invest in the dear old turkoys.
