UNITED ritEBS LEASED WIRE.
Bombay, India, Dec. 22. The po
lice are working today on the theory
that the assassination last night of
A. M. T. Jackson, the administrative
head of the Important city of Nasik,
who was shot to death in the lobby
of a Bombay theater, was the direct
result of a wide-spread plot to mur
der English officials. Tho assassin, a
native, boasted of his deed when ar
rested. Jackson was entering the theatre
with two young women when the na
tive approached and fired without a
word. Tho official fell, mortally
wounded, dying a few hours later.
The wwidespread attempts to as
sassinate English officials. during tho
last six months has aroused the gov
ernment hero and at home to act,
and the hotbeds of discontented In
dians are being constantly raided.
Colonel Wyllte, for years an ofll
c'al in Bombay, was recently mur
dered in London by an Indian stu
dent, who declared on the day of his
execution that his country's deliver
ance nested in the hands of assassins.
Viceroy Minto and his wife were
vict'ms of a bomb thrower Novem
ber 13, and numerous attempts have
been made to kill Lord Kitchener and
Sir Andrew Frazier, tho lieutenant
governor of Bengal.
Other high officials have had nar
row escapes.
LaLst February a bomb was
thrown at a train standing in . tho
station at Barrackpore. It devel
oped later that the assassins believed
Lord and Lady Minto were aboard.
