the Grand, it is to be enlarged to three stories, They have
been here eight years and last year burned eut with no in
surance, -But they are fixed up better than ever and are hard
people to keep down, Mrs, 0, E, Carter has the- Bayview
rooming house, with a fine lot of rooms a block from the
landing.
Stoker and Son have a big meat, fish and game market,
They have been in business four years,
Real estate dealers are Lee Williams, and F. M. Hookins.

There are two live local newspapeis, the News and the
Signal, Both expressed regret that Salem people did not
vote to acquire Fairmount Park, I told them many -Salem
people felt sorry, too, Mrs, Frank Brown of Salem said she
was sorry the people voted the way they did, I told her I
was sorry she did not have a chance to vote on the matte-,
Women almost universally wanted the city to have that place
for a park, Salem ot no end of good advertising when l
was proposed to buy Fairmount, and has had many-a knock
at failure to carry the election, The city will have no sue'1

good shelter tents and all accommodations,
Mrs, Berry's Takeiteasy has been well patronized this
summer, It is well located for rooms in the fashionable part
of Nye Creek,
Fogarty and Rowin do a big business in the bay, wood,
grain, livery and feed stable line, Mr, Fogarty is county
commissioner and looks after county affairs as closely as
his own,
